I suspect the new Messages system was implemented as a way of protecting the site owners from FOSTA regulations, but I have no proof. Does anyone else think this might be the case? I'm thinking the new system doesn't retain conversations as long, so the owner doesn't have to worry about purging data that may or may not violate the terms of FOSTA; it just flushes ALL conversation data after a very short amount of time, keeping the site owners protected from liability. Thoughts?
