Mitch thinks he is going to hammer out a deal between Republicans, then dump it on Dems and say they have to vote for it or the economy burns.
Half the Republicans in congress are there because they and their voters hate everything about the government. They are not going to vote for trillions in handouts added to the national debt. They can't come close to a deal that the majority of Republicans will agree on. Even if they did, 0% chance Democrats will go along with a deal a majority of Republican could agree on. The only way stimulus gets done is the way TARP got done. Democrats voted 172 to 63 in favor of the legislation, while Republicans voted 108 to 91 against it. Only way this gets done is if the White House and Mitch start trying to work out a deal with Dems. They need a deal that the majority of Dems will agree to, that Republicans will split down the middle on, and Trump will sign. Good thing that there is a strong sense of unity between Mitch McConnell and the congressional Dems. I mean, it isn't like he stole a SCotUS pick from Obama or anything like that. Let's enjoy watching Mitch McConnell wriggle like a worm on a hook of his own making,,, while we watch the economy burn.
