I listened to a guy today who wrote a book on the 1942 Rose Bowl . On December 7th 1941 the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. . The Rose Bowl a highly thought of sport event was scheduled for January 1 1942. Because of the attack on Pearl Harbor and the threat of an attack the game was moved to Duke University. The Rose Bowl featured the Duke Blue Devils against the Oregon State Beavers. The president felt the game must go on to get Americans minds off Pearl Harbor. Immediately after the game most of the players signed up for the military . The Duke head coach a 42 year old man signed up with his players . The stories of these men and how their lives changes makes hair on your arm strand up. The Duke coach was wounded. In the Battle of the Bulge and behind enemy lines . Two Oregon state players heard this and went on a mission to save the coach .. They saved him but one of the Oregon boys didn’t make it . The book is. Called Fields Of Battle .
