Getting Started with Rope is a beginner-friendly, structured introduction to Shibari that focuses on safety, consent, communication, and foundational rope concepts. You do not need prior experience. You do not need prior experience or familiarity with rope-based practices. You just need curiosity and a willingness to learn. This class exists to remove confusion, reduce anxiety, and give you a clear, grounded understanding of how rope is practiced safely and respectfully within our community. Doors open at 6:45pm & close at 7:15. What This Class Is This is a 2-hour guided introduction to rope-based partner practices and the surrounding community that explains not only how it is used, but also why, how people communicate around it, and how to participate responsibly. You will leave with a clear understanding of what safe rope rope-based practice looks like, how consent and negotiation work in real life, and how to confidently enter rope-focused spaces without feeling lost or out of place. About the Instructors This class is taught by Dan and Renee, founders of All Tied Up San Diego and rope educators since 2015. They have taught thousands of students over the years and are known for creating a learning environment that is clear, respectful, supportive, and beginner-focused. Optional LAB Practice Hour After the class, there is an optional LAB practice hour. The LAB is a guided, beginner-friendly space where you can practice basic rope concepts using the included Online Bonus Materials. Instructors and assistants are present to answer questions and offer support. Participation is always optional. You may observe, practice at your own pace, or choose not to participate at all. There is no pressure. What to Bring A government issued ID for waiver and check in No rope is required for the class itself If you plan to attend the LAB, bring rope and a safety cutter What to Wear Wear clothing that feels comfortable and allows you to sit, stand, and move. For those being tied during LAB, form-fitting clothing works best and helps the rope sit correctly on the body. Sports bras are recommended. Loose or bulky clothing can interfere with the placement of the rope. Clothing choice is optional during LAB. Participation choices are always personal.
