We tend to prefer friends with benefits. We have one couple we know who are very engaging and friendly when you get them alone (or at a party away from their main friends), but can often seem aloof or even not say hi at other parties. We're struggling with this because for us, the stronger the friendship, the better the sex. The hiccups make us hesitant to plan the next play date and make us wonder if our friendship is really about the fact that we have a house without kids to go back to when no one else is available for a playdate. We really don't have this dynamic with any of our other friends. We've tried to always play the long game. Even if we didn't want to play with someone at a party that night, we felt a nice hello and a few minutes of interaction greased the wheels for the future. It's been mentioned that they don't want to "bother us" at parties, but that seems like a smokescreen or something else. These are not shy people we're talking about. These community is small enough that we can't avoid them at parties (and aren't going to skip the parties regardless because of this). I'd like to say something to them about how interacting for even a few minutes at a party wants us make them more for the next time even if we don't play that night. But How do you address this without sounding needy?
