Until both sides of gun use are tracked, we will never be able to have a serious discussion about reducing #gunviolence
FBI tracks gun crime in the Uniform Crime Report (UCR). CDC tracks gun suicides (not gun violence but included anyway). Absolutely NO ONE tracks defensive gun uses. Literally half of the data is missing. As a guy who wrote crime reports for more than 23 yrs, I can tell you that the FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigation UCR reporting data only tracks if the suspect was armed, with what and if the victim was injured. Nowhere do they ask if the victim was armed, with what or if they successfully defended themselves. Without that data, you only have half of the picture. It is absolutely impossible to make an informed decision without all the pertinent data. Those pushing #GunControlNow are doing so either ignorantly, or worse, knowing they are misrepresenting the facts. No one should be taking advice from the ignorant or liars. There will never be an "honest discussion" until one side admits that guns are used for positive reasons, and based on that side's villainization of the man who stopped the Indiana mall shooting, I doubt they will ever be willing to have the honest discussion they claim to want. Until they are willing to be honest, they can kick rocks!
