I have stated over and over that Trump is my president. I disagree with a LOT of what he has done. I felt it only honorable to point out where he has done something good in my eyes.
Trump is currently working with DHS to overhaul the H1-B visa program. The H1-B visa program is an insane scam. It allows for people to come work in the country and get a work permit. The people are paid shit wages, but get to come to the US and work. It is often used by the tech industry. Why? Because they can hire someone from India that would have to get paid $70 an hour if they were US citizens and allows them to pay them $20 an hour. To do this, the company has to apply and sponsor the employee. Trump is working on making them pay at least close to prevailing wages. That means the $20 will now go to $60 an hour. This will give companies pause. The paperwork and the fees are insane already. It will not be worth it. What is the end result of this? Those companies that have been hiring H1Bs will probably limit the number that they hire at prevailing rates. The companies will probably hire a couple locals. The companies will then outsource directly to firms in India that will hire the worker. The worker in India will get $12 and the company will get $20. The US company will not have to worry about H1B. The issue will just become timezones and having remote workers halfway around the world. This is not perfect. The H1B program was always full of issues that were abused by large companies. For those that are not aware, there was a big issue regarding this with Disney. Disney laid all their people off. They hired a company out of India who then sponsored all the employees on H1Bs. The workers came over got the $20 an hour and replaced the 40-70 an hour US citizen. There are roughly 500k H1Bs issued annually and iirc 100k are in the nerd business.
