In each person's story, you find a piece of the full story. No one sees the big picture, just the world from their point of view. To get a sense of the big picture, you need to piece together these various point's of view into a mosaic.

As an example, I have never run a small business, instead working for mega corps like MCI, Worldcom, Compuware, HP and IBM. I met a guy through the swing lifestyle that ran his own appliance repair business. You know, refrigerators, stoves, cloths washers, dish washers, water heaters, etc. He explained to me the ins and outs of that business, and the scams he was forced to run to stay in business.

These numbers are 20+ years old, so probably double them for inflation now. Basically, all the appliance repair guys needed to make $100+parts for any call they went on. He scheduled 2 hour appointments, so max of 4 a day, but really he struggled to average 3 as he was never constantly 100% booked. $300 a day gross, $1500 a week, $75K a year, gross. HALF of that went to administration, advertising, insurance, work truck payment, gas, accounting, workman's comp, tools, interest on the line of credit used to stock parts on his truck, etc. So, he was netting half the $75K or $35K to $40K a year. Again, 20+ year old numbers, so probably need to double those.

Now, he would have LOVED to have a $100 service fee for the 2 hour appointment, then charge you his cost for parts, only replace what really needed replaced, then after he repaired the actual problem, spend the rest of the 2 hours doing cleaning and maintenance on all your other appliances.

BUT, some of his competition ran a scam where they advertised a $20 or $30 service fee, then when they showed up, they would replace a bunch of parts that didn't need to be replaces, and charge you 2-3x the cost of the parts, plus a hefty per-hour fee for while they were replacing the parts that didn't need replaced... So they still got their $100 per call, they just did it by fraud.

Once one company started doing this scam, stupid consumers thinking they were getting something for a lower price, would go with whatever company had the lowest service fee, so honest guys got no business, so if he wanted to stay in business, he too had to run this scam.

Looking at politics, we see the same thing. Lying works. If you don't lie, you get no votes. So, all politicians are forced to lie if they want a chance to win.

Goop girl in the debate last night did make an amazing point, that today everyone is all like "what?". The Democrats are offering facts, plans, proposed solutions. Those don't win elections! Donald Trump didn't win because of any data, facts, plans. He ran on hate, racism, ignorance and emotion. Build a wall, lock her up, Mexicans are murdering rapists, fuck China, fuck Iran nuke deal, fuck libtards (seriously, punch them in the face and I'll pay your legal fees).

Fucking hell... Obama didn't win based on plans or facts. He won on "Yes we can" and "Audacity of hope". Can what? Hope for what? Meh, don't get bogged down in the details, as the details just piss people off.

Where is the Democrat with some meaningless catch phrase, that stirs emotion, while not actually committing to do anything? Where is our guy with the $20 service fee, promising to fix what is wrong for an affordable price, but is really going to fuck us out of $100 by fixing a bunch of shit that ain't broken?
