I knew it was coming. I hadn't heard this much talk of being a millionaire and retiring at 30 or 35 since the peak of the techbubble in 2000 and housing bubble in 2007, but I'm shocked how hard and fast it appears to be hitting.
Usually stocks and bonds move in the opposite directions. People moving out of stocks put the money into bonds, and vice versa. Now we are seeing both stocks and bonds going down at the same time. (30 year treasury liquidity has dried up. Few buyers, and rates up from 0.8 to 1.25 this week). Sellers first sell what they want to sell. Then they sell what they have to sell. Then they sell what they can sell. Treasuries are usually this last category, but even that is drying up. Hey billionaires, your money is our (the losers) debt, and when we can't repay our debt, your money ceases to exist. Money is created from debt, and poofs out of existence when the debt defaults and is written off. 40 years of Reaganomics debt increasing at 3x the sustainable rate will come home to roost. EVEN if we manage to stop the collapse this time as we did in 2008, the debt will still be increasing, and still become increasingly unstable, and eventually it is going to collapse.
