Here's a topic that should take in the day's news on a regular basis. And one that I know from experience with friends from very different political backgrounds can be safe discussion territory if the will is there to keep partisanship out of it.
The reason for posting at this time is the upcoming Fed open market committee meeting later today. The Fed is reportedly "widely expected" to signal several upcoming interest rate hakes for later this year. I say "reportedly" because this has been reported as a "widely expected" for at least the last 4 Fed meetings. I myself have wondered why in hell they haven't done it already. The Fed's response has been, essentially that they think inflation is transitory and based on Covid induced supply chain disruptions. I thought that line was questionable by early last year and has delusional for at least six months. So, quick, what do you think the Fed will do? And what will the S&P 500, the Dow, and the NASDAQ look like a week from today? My prediction is that they will reign in quantitative easing a bit further and continue to kick the can down the road. This will lead to a continued rally in the current stock bubble. The inevitable reckoning will likewise be kicked down the road. In case you don't think you're qualified to chime in on this question consider the actual headline I read this morning on the topic: "Guidance from the founder of Tastyworks stock fund on upcoming FOMC meeting". Yes that's "Tastyworks". And no, you would not be off base to guess that this guy bears a striking resemblance to a middle-aged Jeff Spicoli.
