In our case, we have a big (5 br) house and there were times where we took people in to help them out. One of those times, a female cousin with 2 sons jumped into a marriage that wound up being both physically and mentally abusive. She felt trapped, and when we found out her situation, we offered for her to move in with us. She eventually took us up on it.
They were with us for about 2 years while she got back on her feet emotionally and financially enough to get their own place. Between the 3 of them and us with our 3 daughters, there were 8 of us. We felt like it was mayhem much of the time.
