I met a couple on SLS. They said in their profile that they will only communicate by email and will never give a phone number. I suppose I could send an email if I get lost trying to find the place we agreed to meet. But since you can buy a burner phone anywhere or use one of those services that forwards the calls to your real phone, is it normal for someone to only communicate by email? If it is a scam, what will they gain by email? I suppose they could claim they are an African prince and the rebels took their phone and all they have is a computer in the coffee shop and they need my help to get a few billion out of the country, but other than that, I can't think of any scam they could try.
