Saw yesterday where consumption of erythritol, which is the sugar alcohol found in many artificial sweetners, shows a link between it and an increased rate of heart attack and stroke.
This concerns me because I will usually go for the artificial sweetners to keep the calories down. We used Splenda for a while and then switched to Stevia because it is was supposedly more natural. Most Stevia products however also have erythritol. There is a form of Stevia that is just Stevia extract with no erythritol. We switched to that a while ago because we tracked some gastric issues the Mrs has had for quite some time to the consumption of erythritol. Of course more study is needed and it was mentioned that the cause of issues could be a result of erythritol in conjucntion with something else. Somehow I doubt that this surprises a lot of people.
