After the rent collector left, things went back to normal in the house. The whole afternoon was remarkably quiet except for the occasional noises in mum's bedroom. I knew that mum and dad were making up for lost time since dad's last "conjugal visit" was about a month before.

At about 5 pm, the door bell rang again. It was dad's cousin. Uncle usually visited the house when he knew that dad was around. They usually played chess for hours.
