Rather than Hedo or Desire, we are considering an "off the beaten path" type place and are curious if anyone else has heard of it or been there. Its a smaller resort in Costa Rica called Patos (www dot patos dot com). Their webpage sounds intriguing! It appears to be much more laid back than either of the Hedos or Desire.

Hi. We finally made it to Patos a few weekends ago. It was a wonderfull weekend, but -- unfortunately -- while we were there the host couple announced that the place was being sold. The web page is still up, but the resort is now closed...

Sad but true.

Thanks for the input :) We just returned and had a wonderful time. Apasionados is right about the trek to the beach...early in the morning or late in the evenings were the best times to go. It is a very small place (8 or 9 rooms), which we suppose could be good or bad depending on who is staying there at the time. We were fortunate to have been there with some wonderful couples so our experience was A++. We'll definitely return (sooner rather than later!)

We have been to Patos a couple of times. It has about 16 rooms. Really nice folks run the place, the food had improved on our last visit. Depending on your expectations, you should ask about other bookings. Costa Rica's dry season runs from mid-December to mid-June. The website is a bit misleading. It does have a nice pool, but the ocean is about 15 minutes walk downhill. In the heat, it can be a bit hot and dusty coming back.

We've heard of it but have never been there. It looks like a great place though and having visited Costa Rica can't see how you'd not enjoy yourself.
