After staying a few days at Rooftop at the end of our vacation, we expect to never spend an extended time here again. The upkeep has suffered tremendously since we were last here in early 2011 - the pool deck hasn't been hosed off a single time, a used condom sat on a table next to a futon all morning today and was finally removed after I complained to 2 different employees about it a couple hours apart - both of whom said they would tell housekeeping. The wall covering in at least one of the playrooms is falling off the wall, with no effort to put it back up. The swing in the playroom is missing all of the straps needed to hold ankles and wrists; when I asked about it today, the front desk person was unaware, said there was another swing in a guest room that was rented out, and that there will be swings installed in every efficiency soon. The air conditioning unit in our room was heavily coated with dust, smelling of mildew, and the bathroom window locks are broken, so getting fresh air in is impossible. There are a few good things - the king-size bed we required is pretty comfortable. It is still possible (and fun) to be exhibitionistic/voyeuristic regarding sex seen through the large plate glass guest room windows that look over the courtyard. While the pool towels are pretty worn out, the room towels are very nice, clean and fluffy. Ernesto still gives a great massage. There are several covered futons on the pool deck, with pillows, that are available for use. There are a lot of chaise lounges and several tables with chairs on the pool deck. A no-frills barbeque is provided Saturday afternoon (today it was hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken breasts, buns, mustard, and ketchup). If you have any hearing problems, you won't have any trouble hearing the music that is played constantly in the courtyard and on the pool deck, especially once the parties start - which go until 2 a.m. Some of the staff have been very friendly and welcoming. The best restaurant in the area we found is Pachamama Peruvian Restaurant, just around the corner near the Wings store. They serve truly excellent ceviche, shrimp soup, and other Peruvian delicacies at a very reasonable price. Las Brisas Restaurant, a little ways south on the broadwalk, has fantastic crab ravioli, house salad, empanadas, and canneloni, though it's a little more pricey.

We have been often and no it is not a dive. It has been upgraded and we thoroughly enjoy the people that we have met there. The rooms on the second floor are themed and it makes for a great party in the evenings with DJ and music. The pool area is always great and the staff even have BBQ on Sundays. Lots of locals stop by. Nick's Cafe is down the street and serves until the wee hours. Don't go expecting 5 star resort... it's all about attitude and fun... Where else can you find a rooftop swimming pool only a block from the ocean surrounded by fun fun people... oh and the swing is definitely worth trying out... *wink*

It's good to hear that The Rooftop has been renovated and added some upgrades. We went a year ago and enjoyed the pool area very much. There wasn't a lot of people but those that were there engaged in great conversation. Even met the people who put the swing in one of the rooms (suggested I use it *wink*). We played with a group of singles who were all nice. It was a bit clammy but we would definitely go back if we hit Florida again. And we would definitely stay on site. Really want to see the upgrades now. :)

We have been to the rooftop several times now love the place, we went when it was ran down and had fun,I will admit it was in need some TLC, well it got it ,the last visit was a few months back and they were making upgrades while we were there....its was motel-ish our first visit but now they actually have a resort feel now,,,and all the folks who complained about the rooms can stop now they have luxury rooms to pick from.......but who stayed in the rooms anyways .......we will be spending NYE there this year ,,,,let us know if you be there,,,,,,,,shots on me........and last time we were there the crowd was better then we had seen in the past ,and it was crowded all 5 days .....if you like to have sex under the sun this is the place to be....IT GETS HOT

UPDATE: We stayed there July 4 weekend. There are significant upgrades and renovations snce New Years. The dance floor on the second floor and the improvement of the guest rooms impressed us. Plus, there was a funloving crowd...

It's an older property with no first-class accommodations, but we like the views from and in the rooftop pool area and the playrooms, plus the hospitable staff. The crowd (and the action) has varied from visit to visit. Sometimes we stay there and play at Trapeze. We like the group fun, the exhibitionism/voyeurism, and the variety. Think of a large swing club playroom with a pool and views of the ocean.

We were there on a day pass several weeks ago and the place was undergoing desperately needed renovations, including turning the 2 floor atrium area into a lifestyles night club and sprucing up the roof top area. We'll wait to hear if the rooms have been fixed up before considering an overnight stay.
