User Details are only visible to members.	Sand Key Park History/Orientation: Sand Key Park was opened to the public August 1984. Ninety-five acres are located on Sand Key, a barrier island between the Gulf of Mexico and the Florida mainland. Clearwater Pass, leading from the Gulf to the Intracoastal waterway, separates the park from the popular resort area of Clearwater Beach. The park welcomes more than one million each year. Features: Sand Key Park houses the base of operations for the artificial reef program, an interdepartmental cooperation program to build a reef in the Gulf. Sand Key Park’s natural communities include a beach where sea turtles annually deposit eggs. The nearby Clearwater Aquarium takes responsibility for these nests and keeps statistics. In July 2002, the media chronicled 84 hatchlings from a rare Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtle making their way to the Gulf of Mexico. A salt marsh with viewing benches further enhances the park, where heron, roseate spoonbill, great horned owl, anhinga, and common moorhen nest and feed. The park has nine boardwalks leading to the beach, also perfect for the stunning beach sunset weddings performed each year.

Honeymoon Island The pioneers called it Hog Island, but it became Honeymoon Isle in 1939 when a New York developer built 50 palm - thatched bungalows for honeymooners. Today, visitors can drive across Dunedin Causeway to enjoy the sun - drenched Gulf beaches, mangrove swamps, and tidal flats. Nature lovers will find osprey nests, a wide variety of shorebirds, and one of the few remaining virgin slash pine forests in South Florida. The park boasts several nature trails and bird observation areas. Visitors can swim, fish, and snorkel in the warm waters of the Gulf or picnic while they enjoy the beautiful scenery. Shelling is particularly good here, as the Gulf currents deposit an incredible variety of seashells on the shore. Showers are available and the park´s concession has a gift shop and snack bar. Located at the extreme west end of State Road 586. ZZ

Clearwater--Indian Rocks Beach Indian Rocks Beach has 27 public beach accesses/parks, including Pinellas County 18th Avenue Park, each with it's own unique character and style that will lead you to our paradise. In October of fiscal year 2003, the City of Indian Rocks Beach joined a recreational services cooperative with Indian Shores, Belleair Beach and Belleair Shore. In order to provide active recreation programs in the IRB area, the Cooperative entered into an agreement with the YMCA of the Suncoast. ZZ

A recent survey by National Geographic Traveler and Yahoo! Travel found that, “cleanliness was the most important factor in picking which beach to go to…” (Source: AP). The Blue Wave program is the first national environmental certification for beaches. The Blue Wave certification process is designed to help maintain robust, healthy, and vibrant beaches. Applicants for certification may include beach municipalities, local authorities, tourism boards, homeowners associations, hotels, resorts, and others representing a beach or destination. Florida's Gulf Coast uses this Blue Wave program ZZ

User Details are only visible to members.	Treasure Island beaches are like a dinosaur - thin at one end, much, much thicker in the middle, and then thin again at the other end. We have essentially three beach areas, all fronted by the Gulf of Mexico. The first area is mid-island. It is a very wide beach and it is here that you will find most of our gulf-front motels, hotels and, the newest breed of vacation lodging, the condo-hotel. It is a commercial area with many restaurants, shops and conveniences all within a short walking distance. At either end of the island, with John's Pass to the north and Blind Pass to the south, the beaches are narrower yet no less beautiful. These beaches, known as Sunshine Beach and Sunset Beach respectively, are more residential than commercial, and home to everything from quaint beach cottages to Key West-styled three-story homes. Here you will find dunes of sea oats lining the beach with walkovers providing access. At the southern tip of Treasure Island, in Sunset Beach, is a 5/10 mile boardwalk which encirles the tip of the island. This is where Blind Pass and the Gulf of Mexico meet. It's popular for fishing and just strolling. White, sugar sand beaches, sport fishing, jet skiing, parasailing, and join the party in January as rowdy swashbucklers invade Tampa for the Annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival. ZZ
