Remember the photos of the President and first lady pirated for use in ads...the same laws apply to us! Basically if it doesn't belong to you it can be considered infringement of your privacy and theft of intellectual property. "If it's posted to Internet it's in the public domain." False. Nothing modern and creative is in the public domain anymore unless the owner explicitly puts it in the public domain(*). Explicitly, as in you have a note from the author/owner saying, "I grant this to the public domain." Those exact words or words very much like them. Some argue that posting to Internet implicitly grants permission to everybody to copy the posting within fairly wide bounds, and others feel that Usenet is an automatic store and forward network where all the thousands of copies made are done at the command (rather than the consent) of the poster. This is a matter of some debate, but even if the former is true it simply would suggest posters are implicitly granting permissions "for the sort of copying one might expect when one posts to Internet" and in no case is this a placement of material into the public domain. It is important to remember that when it comes to the law, computers never make copies, only human beings make copies. Computers are given commands, not permission. The courts and the law is very clear, if you upload pictures via the internet for unkown others to see, as long they do not use it commercially, they can use your picture any way they want. You don't like that, then don't up load them.

Hi everyone! If you could give us a few "spruce up" ideas or an idea of how our profile reads, we'd greatly appreciate it! Some comment on the lenght and we're wondering if its too long. But we also feel as though we like to give a complete description...thanks in advance for any and all advice!

Yeah the warning was pulled (with permission) from an account on Adult Friend Finder - we have a rarely used account there too. I'm no lawyer, but it sounded like some level of protection. I'm aware of the SLS TOS, by signing up for and paying the membership, I give them permission to use my profile in an legal manner also in line with their TOS. The warning is for everyone else. I don't want photos of us anywhere I didn't provide permission to use them, etc. The copyright is valid; SLS has permission to use them - no one else does. If you copy a photo from SLS, you violate their copyright, TOS, and my intellectual rights. I don't have a clue what legal ramification their would be - but I've found content from one of my own websites stolen for use on another website. I'll let the lawyers handle that. Problem solved. The warning shouldn't scare anyone legit away - if you're really interested in us, you wouldn't be interested in taking and misusing our identity.

Actually it is also his intellectual property, provable by what is on his/their home computer so yes it "could" be pursued if he/she "found" someone to be using it without his/their permission.

The only real advantage to putting up such a warning is kinda like locking your doors (keeping the honest honest?)...if someone wants they'll get it no matter the potential consequences!

It has been know to work on other sites like AFF where info mining has been done by people from different universities for studies.

Read your profile, mostly a very nice one. However, I'd like to pose a few questions for you to ponder: Why did you place such a paranoid sounding warning and threat at the end of your profile? What legal ramifications? How, exactly, are you going to prosecute under another party's copyright? To a lesser extent, how would you know if anyone violated it in the first place? That's right, it's ultimately unenforceable by you, as the copyright on a profile (and information therein) belongs to SLS, not you - you did read that in their membership terms of service at sign up, didn't you? Strongly recommend you drop that paragraph from your profile. Best course of action, if you are really that worried, is not posting a profile at all. Otherwise, it is a risk we all take being in the lifestyle, like it or not.

Nice profile...we like lots of info to base our choices for contact on. Nice photos too...but the we're guessing you knew all that when you made the effort to put together a complete profile...you didn't really need our input :D

I think you have a well thought-out profile. You nicely express an image of you that goes from your sexual side to your personalities.

We would rather read a long profile (our is too, according to some folks) as it gives you a better representation of what a couple is about.

Those who don't have the patience to read a profile all the way through, no matter what the length, are not worthy of your consideration.
