We've been looking at peoples' profiles and noticed that some have privacy notices on the bottom of their profiles. We were wondering if these can actually protect you against someone copying your photos and such. We are also wondering if we should do this ourselves. We appreciate any feedback, and hopefully some facts. Thanks, A and D :)

User Details are only visible to members.	Thanks for your replies, I didn't think it had a functional purpose besides making people feel a little more secure. We just wanted to double check and make sure.

User Details are only visible to members.	Losamantes are exactly right, but perhaps you might like an explanation. Social scientists doing funded research (no one does research for free) are subject to the same restrictions as clinical drug trials in terms of privacy. That means they can't legally collect and use this kind of personal data without your permission. They are audited to make sure. Also to the point is that the data isn't very valuable for legitimate studies. There's no way to prove that people on SLS are representative of the population as a whole, or even of the swinger population. Might freshmen as some college write a paper based on something they've seen here? Yes. Could they get it published? No. Could they put it on a blog? Could a reporter who sees it write about it? Yes, see below. Can the privacy notice protect you from people downloading your pictures or profile data, pretending it's their own, and posting it all over the internet? If you think it can, get those tin foil hats on.

User Details are only visible to members.	Those privacy notices are worthless. When we see them in a profile we go back and check the pictures to see if they are wearing tin foil hats.
