I never mind reading long profiles either, if it's by someone with attractive pictures first...as of course, that's what we notice first. If I don't have the time to read through it then, I mark the profile as "friend" and get back to it later.

Ours is long too, but hopefully broken up enough with white space to make it look appealing. That's usually my first suggestion to people with excessive paragraphs.

I re-edit and revise it frequently enough, but for the most part, it says what we want it to say. Now, if we could only get ourselves on the OTHER end of a camera...

We also have a long profile and are often teased about it lol. However we do not feel the need to change it. I do modify it semi often but it is rarely for the sake of making it shorter. As long as you do not feel like you are reading 8th grade english and keep the profile as humorous and entertaining as possible...while at the same time getting your point across...people do not mind. I just despise mis-understandings and feel like its just better to have it all out there vs. having people making assumptions.
