Original Starting post for this thread:
I have been bothered by vaginosis from time to time and I don't trust the side effects of clindamycin (had bad reaction to both oral and vaginal in the past). It seems to me I have heard of a lot of "home remedies" (yogurt, garlice, ect.) that women have luck with. Any thoughts here? If it flairs up after sex, should I be using condoms with hubby in addition to play pals? Really looking for some good advice here, girls.

What ever you do, NEVER take acidophilus at the same time when you take the flagyl. Always take them at separate times of the day.

My husband had taken it one time .
It made him very ill with his Chohns.
It killed all bacteria in his intestines , even the good bacteria.
It is a very aggressive antibiotic.

Watch out when you take Flagyl.
It can also do a number on your intestines as well.
Yogurt my friend and lots of it!

I've had experience with the Metrogel and it worked. I had a bad bout of it back in my early twenties. Fortunately, it's never happened again since.

Have you been tested for everything else to ensure that it is only garden variety vaginosis?

Once you get it kicked out, keep up with the natural supplements to increase your body's natural defense mechanisms.

yes, I know it's bacteria related. It just seems to happen more often to me. We are not wildly active either. I had really bad reaction to the clindamycin tablets and I am leery of the vaginal cream. A mess to apply to also. Anybody have any experience with metrogel?

As Dgrey said, bacterial vaginosis is a bacteria, this is what produces the odor. You need to see your gyn. I have unfortunately had it and was put on Flagyl. Be careful though...the meds kill the normal bacteria and you very well may get a yeast infection after. The ph balance of the vagina can be a bitch lol.

Stay away from the oil! It's too nasty to describe.

I take it in pill form. You want one that's at least 70% carvracol. I take it once a day. The oil is actually great for acne. You can use it in a very small concentration to treat blemishes, psoriasis, and other skin ailments.

Thanks Dgrey for the suggestions about oil of oregano.. I looked it up and it appears to have all kinds of benefits. I suspect my bouts are stress-related, but who knows? The oil appears pretty potent -- 2-3 drops in juice or something. How do you take yours?
