Charging 70 for a single male when they charge 50 or so for a couple seems fair to me. Couples bring more to the party, sorry, that's just the way it is.

And saying setting up and hosting is a party is very easy makes it obvious that you have never hosted one. We have hosted houseparties for under 10 couples at our house it's a ton of work. From spring cleaning the hell out of the house (had one woman tell us our house made her uncomfortable because it was to clean, lol) to making the yard look perfect to getting all the setups. making sure we had enough towels, wash clothes, baby wipes, etc. Also sending out the the invites and directions, answering questions from people coming. It also cost more than you would think. We never charged and never would and loved it and hope to be able to do it again.

Looks like OP has a hot topic. Personally, we're having a hard time considering $70 crazy money for a BYOB event anywhere. Most anywhere we go setups are free. You bring a $10 bottle of your best and you're set for the night, that same $10 bottle at a bar would cost you more than the $70. That's just my guess, but I've bought many a round of drinks, maybe a bar owner/bartender could chime in?

Anyhow, some of the posters make good points that don't seem to be getting digested, first of all nobody is forcing or "preying" on single men. The men all come because of their own interest in the LS and the LS women (great aren't they?). Second, these parties cost more time and money than you'd guess. Third, so what if the organizers make something for all their trouble, we appreciate them working their butts off and taking the risks to pull it all together. Frankly, you come across as a bit of Democratic, maybe the feds need to step in and equalize the results for all the single men and make sure each pays their "fair" entry and all get their "fair" share.

Single men, how much would you spend, or have you spent, for a hours long night at a strip club, including lap dance? You have to consider the entertainment value of what you're spending. Easily, $70 would be a good night, and pretty conservative in a place like, say, Vegas, for cover charge, drinks, tips, a lap dance by a professional who isn't doing it for fun, she's doing it for money...and all for what? To go back to the hotel and get off alone.

Swing clubs, hotel clubs, etc., on the other hand (pun not intended, but ok), you might "get lucky," you might not, but you have a lot of opportunities, and most of the time, can spend more time there than you could at a strip club.

Why am I using this as a comparison? It's all relative, the money thing. Have you ever spent that much on a lousy date out on the town? Well sure. Easy to do for dinner and drinks, etc., a cab ride.

Just have to prioritize it. Just like I know how much money I am willing to lose at a casino, others would never gamble in the first place b/c the entertainment value of it isn't worth it to them.

Similar points.

American entrepreneural ingenuity! Who cares if someone wants to make money in the lifestyle?

No one forces you to attend for $70.

Didn't say anything about who or who doesn't have money, just that parties tend to charge single men more because there are so many solo men as compared to couples. Fair has nothing to do with it, that's up to the hosts, which seems to be purely market driven, maybe greed, doesn't matter. They charge more because they can, if they charge too much then you won't get any single males, if they allow in too many, couples steer away. As a couple that likes solo males, we'd prefer the hosts somehow be selective, but they may not select to our taste even if they did. Our point was that more options and venues will be better for everyone and perhaps you'll find some options that meet your price point and makes it worthwhile for you to go out and party at such an event. But remember, the events aren't about you, just like a regular club isn't really about the men. What do you see as the ideal process for hosts to get in single males?

BTY, we don't seem to see parties under $50 for a couple anyway, why does $75 sound like a lot for a byob event?

We don't see single men in particular fleeced, although for all the many reasons related to the volume of single males up-charges are pretty standard and to be expected. We have seen the commercialization of the lifestyle, but as free market advocates we believe it is a positive trend and that we'll see better and better "product". Already we're seeing better more expansive lifestyle clubs, great sound systems, big dance floors, and clean playrooms. Resorts - was there anything like Desire 30 years ago? Maybe some nudist places with kids running underfoot. Even with hotel parties, we're seeing better hotel ballrooms booked, sure there are stlll plenty of the seedy hotels, but as sites like SLS proliferate and communication improves the call for quality will mean more choices.
