If it's coming off on your hands with just water, it ain't coconut oil.

You do whatever you like. You're obviously won't accept a scientific explanation.

Here is a quote from the CDC article (bold and italics are mine): "In 2011, the World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with United Nations Population Fund and Family Health International, published an advisory document which reconfirms that oil-based lubricants should be avoided, and provides more clarity on the procurement of safer water-based lubricants. A list of household products are listed as damaging to latex including: baby oil, burn ointment, dairy butter, palm or coconut oil, cooking oil, fish oil, mineral oil, suntan oil, haemorrhoid cream, petroleum jelly and body/hand lotions [47]. <em><strong>This WHO list, however, references a behavioural study in Jamaica [48] which actually does not specifically mention, or scientifically test the condom compatibility of most of these “condiments,” as is implied."</strong></em>

It concerns an advisory document but note the ending. No scientific tests were done and it is only implied. I suggest you try your own little experiment. Put some coconut oil in your hands and then go wash it off. It comes off my hands with the use of only water.

I avoided "magazine-style" articles, since those are just "stuff people write on the internet", and stuck with more authoritative publications. Since they don't allow web links on here, I had to insert a space in critical spots in the url.

It is a matter of the definitions of latex and oils and their well-established solubility. Latex (and synthetic forms) does not care what the source of the oil is, mineral or organic, just that it is oil. The latex polymer chains are broken down iin exchanges with the oils, compromising the overall structure quite quickly. Even if it doesn't appear to have mechanically failed, the viral barrier will be assuredly and quickly lost. The near 100-degree body temperatures and constant friction accelerate things dramatically. These oils are in makeup, so be careful with them too, as in oral sex on a condom with lipstick or lip gloss. Body oils can also accumulate sufficiently to degrade a condom. If going for amarathon session, you might consider replacing the condom every once in a while. A water-based lubricant, however, does form somewhat of a barrier between the latex and the body oils. You also will not shed massage oils and oil-based lubricants from the vagina easily. So if a husband can safely have sex with hs wife and uses cocnut oil as a lubricant, that can be extremely problematic for a later lover to make love with a condom. No amount of wanting things to be otherwise will make them so. Oil-baesed lubricantsand latex condomsare fundamentallyincompatible. (A sidenote is that if you happen to get the sap of a runner tree on your hands, you can get it off with simple vegetable more easily than soap and water.)

Please point everyone to a web site that shows studies about using coconut oil and condoms. Everything that I have read says that there has been no conclusive study regarding coconut oil and latex. Most people just lump all oils together.

JandGinSD is absolutely right. Any kind of vegetable or petroleum-derived oil will degrade latex and polyisoprene rubber. Coconut oil being "natural" has nothing to do with it.

Coconut oil, and other oil-based lubricants are not safe to use with either latex or synthetic latex (aka polyisoprene, like Skyn ones) condoms. Petroleum-based was commonly cited only because they were on the market earlier, competing with water-based ones. All oils chemically break down the structure identically. No amount of wishing it to be otherwise, in denial, will change the scientific fact. You have water-based and silicon-based lubricants out there. They moight not be as much fun, but neither are condoms versus raw. You either play safely or you don't. Now, there are polyurethane condoms that admit more possibilities, but who's heard of anyone liking those?

I think the best containers if your going to do that is the tiny round travel ones that only hold enough for 3-4 times. 1/2 cup would take forever to go through. The smaller containers we might use up in a month. Maybe.

Coconut oil IS NOT petroleum based and it is petroleum that breaks down latex. For those of you that don;t want to dig into a large jar to get some coconut oil out, do what we do. Buy a package of GLAD storage containers. They come in small sizes that will hold a half cup and on up. We spoon it out of the jar into smaller containers and keep it next to the bed.
