Since Herpes seems to hold some interest (as it should)for people in this forum, and since we have had quite a few messages asking how we came to have it we thought why not post it in here.We need to first admit our knowledge of the "gift" as Herpes is called was nill. Never did we think that having oral sex with a person who has hsv1 orally could spread herpes to the genitals but thats exactly what happened to us.We met a WONDERFUL couple on another swing site.Met several times for drinks, things began to progress to the point that we became full swap, seperate rooms and on occasion played with each others spouse seperately. Then one morning after about a year of playing only with this couple the Mrs began to feel a tingling / burning sensation in the pubic area of her genitals, did not think much of it other than it was likely caused by some good hard sex she had had with our close friends.A few days later that changed when little red bumbs appeared, a trip to the DR. and a specific test for Herpes revealed we had been givin the "gift" of genital Herpes type 1.. Confused, upset, and in denial about covers our feelings at the time.A month later it was my turn, flu like symptoms fever, chills, and then the bumps.During this period we decided NOT to say anything to our swing partners but finally decided we could dodge them no longer,we met them and told them of our situation. We explained all we had learned about Herpes from the time we had been diagnosed to the time we had disclosed it to them. The basic facts..most don't know they have it,many miss the signs or symptoms when they do show up,and the only way to know for sure is to be tested specifically for Herpes...not just a "standard".. std test.Well of course they denied that they had Herpes and we explained they would have no way of knowing without being tested without a type specific test for it.They kept repeating they had STD tests regularly and assured us it "was not them".The problem was we never accused them of passing it to us. We did not hear from them for several months then one evening out of the blue a phone call, the husband said he had decided to put their minds to rest and get tested, his test was positive,as was his wifes, same feelings as ours when we found out.So the question..and it really cannot be answered with any certainty, who gave it to who? We never had hsv1 in the typical place, on our mouths or face, never had any sort of indication of Herpes in the genital region...until we played with this other couple , they on the other hand had many oral break outs of Herpes(hsv1) and actually he could remember an evening we played where he had the burning/buzzing feeling of a coming cold sore on his lip which would indicate he was shedding the virus at that time. The time of that fits the diagnosis timeline...we just cant say for sure if thats when it occured. We remain playmates today, have worked through the whole thing and have come to realize there is no use in fretting or trying to place blame...in this lifestyle we all assume risks...but they can be reduced with knowledge of how these viruses and other bugs work.Be smart read up, get educated we always recommend lifestylers read "Good Virus bad Virus" These are some very basic facts regarding Herpes easily found on medical sites online ....

Up to 60 percent of people with GENITAL Herpes have no idea they carry the virus.

1 in 5 people have genital Herpes

80 % or more of the adult population has oral hsv1 , which can be easily spread to the genitals during oral sex causing genital hsv1

Herpes can be spread through skin to skin contact when there is no visible sign of an outbreak, this is through the shedding process.

Condoms are of little help in preventing herpes since it occurs in other areas around the genitals and spreads through skin to skin contact.

Having this was twenty years ago, He was one of the Guinea Pigs for medical research. They tried to cure him with interferon. Gave him a new liver but he died anyway. Hep C was the real killer buy the lying scam Democrats where making and banking huge money off of AIIDs, This is all they care about was the cash they where pocketing from AIDS while Hep C was the real killer.

Hep c is the big one. Its so easily passed just from sharing a straw snorting coke. Hep C killed a friend of mine who was a musician in the studios in LA.

When recording there was always a pile of coke on the piano with straws, so many talented people got hep C that way.

ncal - You are quite correct. In the early 90s when AIDS was just raising its very ugly head we had a good friend that was a top surgeon and very well versed in the range of STDs. He said they refuse to admit it but to catch AIDS there must be "blood contact" of some kind, he said virtually all transmissions can be traced back to IV drug use, anal (gay) sex, and a few poor individuals that got it through transfusions or being splattered with blood (emergency responders). We have found this to be very true. As you suggest most will not admit IV drug use or being gay. He also said the greatest risk of sexual transmission of STD is hepatitis, because it is very easily transmitted in body fluids, and many/most people have no symptoms for years. At the time it was estimated that 1 in 20 people had hepatitis. He went on to say that it attacks the liver and that even when it is "cured" the liver is damaged and results in very serious liver problems later in life.

Some don't worry, most people don't understand how the data is collected for such collusions that HSV1 can be transmitted to the genitals. In America there is a whole group of people that do not take care of their bodies, these are the homeless and drug and alcohol addicts. When these people are added to the numbers of any disease people think that those numbers come from normal people that you might meet at a club. If you where to read the way the AIDs stats where gathered you would be shocked. When a druggie goes to the ER and they find AIDs the druggies is asked how they got AIDS. This is a simple questionnaire that they fill out. The druggies never tell the truth, that they inject drugs with a needle, instead they say its from sex. The doctors put down on the questionnaire that the answers are not to be believed evidence of IV drug use is apparent.

But for political purposes the doctors statements are not taken into consideration and the druggies is taken for their word that they don't use drugs by the CDC. This is how AIDs is considered by the government to be passed by vaginal sex. druggies lying about using a needle.

This is the way its done by government, the science is epidemiology. Its what we do for a living. The corruption of the CDC is so bad that my wife took a job there when she graduated college and then quit in shock over the corruption of science and went into private industry research just so she could do honest science.

Wow, this topic scares the hell out of us, maybe we are getting too old for the game. We have been in the lifestyle for many years and also traveled to many exotic and remote areas of the world which exposed us to many nasty things. We have always let a few rules and our survival instincts guide us when we play, if either of us gets a bad indication, we don't. I recently had a stay in the hospital because of a stomach problem, that we first thought to be the stomach flu, but it turned out to be an old scar interfering with things. Before discovering the problem however, they put me through every test they had and I think a few they made up. It was a comforting to learn I was totally free of STDs and any other exotic diseases for that matter.

That is new information for me. Interesting read on how the science is done to count the numbers of HSV1 and 2 carriers.

Just making a guess but since the people who have HSV1 is 80 to 90% of the population and the rate of genital herpes is around 16% of the population, guessing that one would have to have a very weakened immune system for HSV1 to infect the genitals during oral sex.

HSV-1 causes "cold sores" on the mouth, and up to 80% of the population has this virus. However, HSV-1 may also be transmitted to the genitals through oral/genital sex and about 40% of genital herpes is caused by HSV-1. Up to 22% of sexually active adults have genital herpes caused by HSV-2.

HSV1 is not passed to the genitals and does not become HVS2. Two very different bugs

HSV-1 is the more prevalent virus, with 65% of persons in the United States having antibodies to HSV-1 (Xu et al., 2002).

HSV-2 prevalence hovers around 10%, increasing to 20%–30% range for most European countries and the United States (Varela et al., 2001; Smith et al., 2001; Enders et al., 1998; Malkinet al., 2002)
