Catnip....we use dental damns (or a condom cut in half) for rimming. That area can never be too clean, and it is important to protect yourself from bacterial infections.

Sorry no-one replied to this earlier! It's all about the degree of risk you are comfortable assuming. One thing you said that isn't true is that oral without protection is about as risky as sex without a condom. You cannot pass HIV nearly as easily, it's pretty unlikely (though not impossible) for oral herpes to be transmitted to genital herpes or vice-versa, and so on. And in the case of a lot of the skin-to-skin nasties (ex. herpes, warts) condoms don't significantly protect you anyway. Most people we know don't take protective measures with oral, other than perhaps having the guy use a condom. Nearly EVEYONE we know will always use condoms for intercourse. Never heard of anyone using a dental dam, and honestly can't imagine it offers enough extra protection to be worth the trouble. The analogy I like most is from when I lived in South America. We would never drink the tap water, we soaked fruit in an iodine solution, and didn't eat street vendor food. But we brushed out teeth with tap water and went to restaurants, even though that carried SOME risk. The lifestyle is like living in an exotic country - you can't live life and enjoy the place if you're paranoid about getting anything, but you take the precautions that eliminate the biggest risks wherever you can...

Helllo All, just starting the lifestyle and its been better than first expected. WE see all these safe sex posts, but no one has addressed oral sex and how far you might go. WE both love giving oral, and the only 100 safe option is no oral sex or next dental damn or condum. We've read all the web based info and it all seems to say that oral sex carries the same amount of risk as intercourse without protection. No one seems to be really clear on this, especially on giving oral on woman, even just on the clit and not going deep. From those of you who have been in the lifestyle for sometime now how do you feel about it, is it better to just skip the play of oral sex?? ( we hope not) Does a dental Damn feel okay, and is it taboo..thanks
