When it comes to the topic of HSV 1, what is the general thoughts on it. We disclose in our profile that she is HSV 2 positive and the Mr. was just tested HSV 2 negative and HSV 1 positive. That being said, we knew the Mr. was HSV 1 positive as growing up he experienced cold sores. Considering the prevalence of HSV 1 (50% exposure by age 20 - 90% exposure by age 50) is this something that others state in their profile or disclose to others before playing? We have met other couples that have admitted to HSV 2 once we brought it up and know full well that they have played with others and not mentioned it to anyone. One couple said they frequent an on premises club and considering it took us disclosing our status to them before they disclosed it to us, we assume that it was not the topic of conversation at the club. Hcple , We agree that anyone choosing to play in the L/S needs to address this subject before hand, it occured to us that most people are generally honest and when approached directly will either tell us honestly about their status and politely decline, or in a lot of cases tell us that yes they are in fact the same as us.Every couple or single that we have been contacted by or that we have reached out to has actually thanked us for being up front about this. We do choose not to disclose anyone elses status..we don't judge anyone, just as we would not want to be judged the decision to disclose is a very personal matter.The amazing thing is the number of people unaware of the way Herpes is passed around. To that end we have had a few people contact us to say thanks for being honest but we have the facts wrong...they insist H cannot be passed mouth to genitals, all we can say to that is... ignorance is bliss.thanks for bringing this important information to the forums.

User Details are only visible to members.	Interesting topic. One of us did our doctoral thesis on herpesviruses so we know a bit about the epidemiology. 1. Just about everyone is infected with HSV-1 at some point in their lives. It is so common and so easily passed that it is endemic. 2. HSV-1 and HSV-2 do not respect the belt line. People can and do have HSV-1 in the genitalia and HSV-2 in the mouth. Given relative casual mores about sex, many people have contacted (not necessarily contracted) HSV2 at some point. 3. Both viruses enter a latent phase in nerve ganglia. They take up residence and come out when you don't want to see them, usually triggered by stress of some sort. 4. Both viruses are transmissible even when sores are absent, but there is more virus around when sores are present. 5. Antiviral medications in the acyclovir,valacyclovir family are quite effective in suppressing the sores. (a related drug, gancyclovir, is used to treat cytomegalovirus (CMV)). What was problem in 1970 ("OMG I have HERPES!!!") is now a minor nuisance. 6. Honesty is the best policy.

User Details are only visible to members.	Very interesting thread, at least for us. The real problem with herpes is the social stigma attached to it. Funny how those with genital hsv either 1 or 2 are in most cases judged differently than those with Oral hsv1 (which is herpes)but given the more acceptable term "cold sores". Wondering what peoples thoughts are on this, do you think a person that gets cold sores (herpes) which up to 90 percent of the population has, should inform potential playmates of the risk they present? This question was asked on a hsv forum and sparked a huge debate, love to hear what our fellow sls'ers have to say!
