we can fight or turn and run... let's say for the sake of argument that those are the only two options and further that we agree to fight.
so then, how long do we fight for, until what goal do we reach? who is bashing your country? |

If the libs win and we turn and run,you wont see any flag at my place for the next attack. I will blame the people here that are bashing our country.
We can fight or run the libs cant have it both ways. |

Exactly my point Dzzy, There's not a clear and defined target in Iraq. Most would like to say that there is. Without that, I don't see a clear way to ever declare victory shy of the Iraqi government standing on their own. I just don't ever see that happening. So for my short answer, I don't know how or when we can declare the war in Iraq over. I unfortunatly forsee, just as in S. Korea, US troops being in Iraq permantly stationed long after I retire.

yes i certainly think it is impossible to declare a victory in the global war on terror that is why i specifically left that out of the post and concentrated on the war in iraq. i also agree that this current iraqi government may never stand on its own. the difference with korea was that at least there was an real "enemy" on the other side to negotiate with.

In reading posts in other forums about the current war in Iraq I saw many posts about continuing the mission, winning the war, that we must obtain victory or that we cannot fail as it would only strengthen our enemies...
I began to wonder about the war in iraq and I am interested in how you would define victory in Iraq. At what point will we have won and the war in Iraq be over? This post is not a commentary on the reasons for going to war or quitting the mission so to speak. more particulary it is simply, how do u measure victory now? |
