Original Starting post for this thread:
A new Gallup poll shows that Americans say they would need to earn a median of $150,000, or have $1 million in total net worth, to consider themselves rich. The $150,000 in income puts you roughly in the top 10%.

On the income side, 30% said they would need to earn less than $100,000. And another 18% said $60,000 a year would make them rich. Fully 15% said they would need to earn $1 million or more a year to think of themselves as rich.

Those who lived in cities said they would need twice as much ($200,000) than what those who live in towns or rural areas said they needed ($100,000).

Men also say they need more than women: $150,000 compared with $100,000.

Anyway, an aliens unwanted and irrelivant take on US policy aside, I continue to be struck by the fact that nearly 20% of America regards 60K a year as "rich" Not surprised, more like disgusted at this lowering of the bar

It's amusing to see that he's blocked so many people that a 9-day old post is the one he sees.

"Thought provoking post Maritimers."

Hummm...Riddle me this.... What is more useless and irrelevant than a Canadian Jew's opinion on US economic policy and income inequity in the US? Sorry..it was a trick question, the answer of course is..... nothing

Va, your points went without saying, then some guys fought over economic theory, culminating in a "fuq off," followed by Robert saying you act like a virus and deserve to be spoken to like someone earning minimum wage.

So, what is rich to you?

Every time the Government raises the min. wage all the union scream "I want my share". when you raise the min. wage it is a natural act of Union to make sure they get theirs.

Vabeach:

I've summed my reply up into a few lines.

Yes Vabeach, we all know how your employment specifically is for the high five to six figure range, but your mentality is the same as those who pay minimum wage, there for you can be spoken to as if you paid minimum wage.

At the end of the day, your version of cut throat capitalism gave us the unions, it almost gave us socialism. It gave us Corporate socialism and the Military industrial complex which has given us more enemies than we can deal with.

You want everything, you think that just because you are a self made individual, that you are worth being given everything... You aren't. You act more like a virus, consuming everything and leaving nothing for those who you deem weaker or less than you.

Statements about donating to charities are both tax write offs and to let you sleep at night. You uplift the poor through meaningful employment and that means more than minimum wage with real upward mobility.

To demand people on minimum wage to not have families is a statement of black and white logic, or child like thinking. People, (lower wage earners more than higher wage earners) will have families, you simply must learn to deal with this reality or they the people will vote for laws which will take from you, your wealth and provide for the people you and other employers like you don't provide.

What does the auto maker's situation have to do with the minimum wage? I tried following this but perhaps someone can nutshell it for me.
