First the company doesn't expect employees to provide additional surveillance equipment, second the camera wasn't bought for the use of my job, but rather for personal use and adapted for employment use. I have asked tax accountants about such questions in the past while I worked for giant food. The parking lot would flood as a result of poor drainage, so I was looking into buying deep water boots so to not get my feet wet while it rained or the snow melted and flood the parking lot. Because my job didn't officially demand me to walk through the water as a requirement of employment, I was denied write offs. (didn't stop my employers from firing me for not collecting the carts. Thus the adult world... the official work requirements vs unofficial work requirements.) Additionally my employers didn't provide rain gear until I started using the gloves and boots from my NBC suit meant for training as well as my wet weather gear from the military. (work still didn't provide gloves or boots.) Because stores typically provide rain gear, and because the store was suposeto have said equipment (doesn't mean the employer will spend the money to do so) I couldn't get any equipment I would have to use even if I bought it myself as a write off. H&R as well as other tax companies wouldn't sign off on said forms.

User Details are only visible to members.	Yes I have filed taxes, no I haven't ever had something I could deduct... Because I haven't found a job that allows me to buy things that I could deduct. More over, relying upon a tax system which allows you to deduct anything is a form of socialism. Paying taxes are a business expense that the businesses encored as a result of their failure to provide enough to the people. Once the people were abused to such a point that they wouldn't take it, they turned to the government and when the government didn't provide... we almost had a second civil war. (look up coal miners rebellion.) You people do not promote capitalism, you promote oppression under the protection of the government. Then you bitch that you must pay taxes and do not get enough loop holes to escape your tax obligations.

If you as an employee must dig into your pocket for the companies expenses... then your company should recoup you those personal losses... That is the price of doing business. Unless we are going to accept socialism/communism. It isn't the governments place to help businesses by recouping them their losses uncured because they failed to plan for the supplies they needed. That is called a failure to plan and when you fail to plan... you plan to fail. What you have just described by saying that the government must recoup a business their expenses because they didn't plan ahead for the short comings of supply and demand is socialism for corporations... if not Communism for corporations. You expect the government to help you, because you failed to prepare yourself for doing your job... Planning how to do what ever it is you are doing. If we won't bail out or citizens who aren't as well educated, aren't as well prepared as a businessmen ought to be... Then we shouldn't be bailing out our businesses either... least of all the businesses who are acting as you just described... on their knees with their hands out to the government, yet paying minimum wage to their employees.

User Details are only visible to members.	Could Robert actually be talking about a 'write down', when you charge off a bad account or a bad loan as a loss? Robert, if helps think of the things you are talking about as 'expenses' which is what it is. Imagine you are a high level employee for a company and you are deep in the field and you need to get supplies to finish an important project but your suppliers are nowhere nearby. You use your car and your fuel to drive to a local supplier where you pay cash for everything you need for the job then put it your truck and go back to the jobsite. At the end of the week do you expect your employer to pay you back for those materials? How about the gas for your truck? How about the meal you had to eat when you had to leave your lunch at the shop because you needed to go there from another job? Should your boss recoup that to you? Your wages in the times to go get it, do you still think you should be paid as well? ALL of those and more are 'expenses' (write offs) you incurred. Should it come out of your wages (your 'profit' for your labor) or be paid by your boss? If your boss pays them for you (reimburses them to you) then they are HIS expenses. Should HE be able to exclude those expenses from the profit that he must pay his taxes on? Should he be forced to pay taxes on his expenses? You didn't.
