The gunman who shot three officers after a "violent struggle" at a New Jersey police station early Friday is dead, officials said. The suspected shooter had been brought into Gloucester Township Police station for a domestic incident when he got into a confrontation with officers, reported NBC's Philadelphia affiliate, NBC 10. "A violent struggle occurred while the suspect was being processed," Deputy Chief David Harkins said. The man was able to grab a gun and then opened fire. One of the injured officers was rushed to surgery after being shot below his bulletproof vest, and the other two were hospitalized with minor injuries. The shooter was killed by police during the confrontation, according to Chief W. Harry Earle. The investigation was ongoing. Gloucester is located in central New Jersey, about 15 miles outside Philadelphia. How come those armed cops weren't safer in a police station? There goes the argument that having guns will make you safer...

User Details are only visible to members.	There is no reason for police to be armed, most of Englands's police do not have access to a firearm. Obama must disarm all police, and federal agencies before even considering disarming the public. The secret service do not need guns, their job is to step in front of a bullet, not exchange gunfire.

User Details are only visible to members.	Big: Yes a police officer should be armed when issuing a ticket. Far too many are shot at while issuing tickets. Either way. The future will have the police able to disable your vehicle using on star or other such service. So while he has you disabled, you will have to kill him/her and hyjack another vehicle.

User Details are only visible to members.	Sweet, SCOTUS has ruled that police have NO responsibility or duty to protect us. Our safety is our responsibility, even if the courts had ruled otherwise it is impossible for police to be everywhere. Most police work is post crime, except for traffic. Before the overuse of no knock warrants most arrests were made by catching bad guys in vehicles. Another problem with police is they usually get shot when actively doing their job, the desperation of the criminal mind is to get away at any cost. In some places police should not be armed.

User Details are only visible to members.	If they take guns away from police it would have stopped this shooting... IMO police are agents of the Gov and not protected by 2A, though I certainly would not have worked unarmed.

User Details are only visible to members.	Back in 1970. my Dad was sitting behind his desk in the police station, when the husband of a women who he had arrested walk into the station and drew down on him, he had to shoot the guy through his desk while the other officers ran for cover.
