Hotwife:
The problem with raising taxes on the poor is that you won't get much at all. The rich chose to degrade and generally lower their standard of living to such a point that the government is already subsadizing their living... Just so that the US doesn't decend into third world status. So when the rich man has sucked all the wealth from the bottom and doesn't provide a first world standard of livin without the government providing social welfare... It is the richer man who must bare the burden they accepted by creating said society. |

Funny how people always support raising taxes on other people, not themselves. They need to ask people do you support raising your own taxes.

Fjep:
An import tax isn't a tax on the poor, however I will agree with you about the need for a import tax. |

Taxes should be raised on those paying the least. Raise taxes on the poor in the form of 50% import taxes.

Quinnipiac poll:
"Voters 65 - 31 percent support higher taxes on households making more than $250,000 per year," Add 65 and 31, you get 96 -- 4% are undecided. If half of that 4% go each way, you have 2/3 in favor. And 65/31 is more than a 2 to 1 ratio. |

What should be done for upper income folks is to allow the issuing corporation to deduct the dividend they pay out to shareholders (instead of keeping cash to grow) and tax the recipient at their marginal rates like all other income.

There are some 10 to 15% who believe taxes should rise for middle incomes as well as for uppermost.
Different polls will have differing numbers. |

"In the poll, 48 percent said tax cuts should expire in January on earnings over $250,000 but continue for lower incomes"
that does not equal 2/3. |

I will give him credit; he did a great job getting a block of folks thinking someone else should pay more to the government. Kudos!
I do not agree but I am not framing the argument. |

Let the Bush era tax cuts expires. This 112th Congress is near its end, and Obama has no reason to negotiate anything other than an increase in rates for the highest income earners who have benefited, or disregard the lame arguments of Boehner and Cantor, the conductor and lead singer of the unpopular One-Note Boys Choir.
