Condoleeza Rice was as dumbed-down and worthless as a National Security Advisor and Secretary of State as 'W' was in Executive Office economics.

Everyone?

On Sept. 18, 2002, CIA director George Tenet briefed President Bush in the Oval Office on top-secret intelligence that Saddam Hussein did not have weapons of mass destruction, according to two former senior CIA officers. Bush dismissed as worthless this information from the Iraqi foreign minister, a member of Saddam's inner circle, although it turned out to be accurate in every detail. Tenet never brought it up again.

Nor was the intelligence included in the National Intelligence Estimate of October 2002, which stated categorically that Iraq possessed WMD. No one in Congress was aware of the secret intelligence that Saddam had no WMD as the House of Representatives and the Senate voted, a week after the submission of the NIE, on the Authorization for Use of Military Force in Iraq. The information, moreover, was not circulated within the CIA among those agents involved in operations to prove whether Saddam had WMD.

Now two former senior CIA officers have confirmed Drumheller's account to me and provided the background to the story of how the information that might have stopped the invasion of Iraq was twisted in order to justify it. They described what Tenet said to Bush about the lack of WMD, and how Bush responded, and noted that Tenet never shared Sabri's intelligence with then Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Instead, said the former officials, the information was distorted in a report written to fit the preconception that Saddam did have WMD programs. That false and restructured report was passed to Richard Dearlove, chief of the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), who briefed Prime Minister Tony Blair on it as validation of the cause for war.

Secretary of State Powell, in preparation for his presentation of evidence of Saddam's WMD to the United Nations Security Council on Feb. 5, 2003, spent days at CIA headquarters in Langley, Va., and had Tenet sit directly behind him as a sign of credibility. But Tenet, according to the sources, never told Powell about existing intelligence that there were no WMD, and Powell's speech was later revealed to be a series of falsehoods.

------------Throughout this time we had inspectors on the ground who were unable to find anything. We had that country literally locked down and inspectors in place, but why let facts get in the way of a good war.

And of course they never found a damn thing, it didn't exist.

U.S. regulators could file civil fraud charges against some credit-rating agencies for their role in developing mortgage-bond deals that helped bring about the financial crisis, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The Journal said the Securities and Exchange Commission was reviewing the conduct of companies including McGraw Hill's Standard and Poor's and Moody's Investors Service owned by Moody's Corp on at least two mortgage-bond deals.

{OP comment: With his grade of 'D' in his MBA program, 'W' had no economic development plan, and neither does the GOP. Their standard WealthCare agenda never changes}.

"What a fool he is compared to folks like you."

You have to forgive him as he has an exaggerated opinion of his own self importance.

Obama is an idiot as a leader and as an American.

That "American" finally avenged 9-11, something GWB could not do in seven years he did in just over two and I bet that really pisses you off don't it!

AFT, If GWB did such a great job, how do you account for the fact that he is currently listed in the bottom ten of American Presidents, as rated by their performance in office. How do you account to this?

"EVERYONE in the intelligence business believed Saddam hat weapons of mass destruction."

No, they didn't. The people on the ground in Iraq that were charged with looking for them didn't. They were the people that should have known, and they were right...

Akron, The war in Iraq is continuing to cost us a fortune in both lives and money. Lies? Yes. The Bush administration ignored independent inspectors who weren't finding any WMDs. Once Bush had SOMEONE who THOUGHT something MIGHT be there, they took it as the Holy Grail. The administration assured us and the international community over and over that we didn't just have evidence but solid and absolute proof the weapons were there. Bush wanted to hurt someone after 9/11 and Saddam was a perfect bad guy to pick on. Yes, the war was based on lies. The administration tried to tie 9/11 to Saddam, too. More lies. But back to the topic. The military conflicts we choose to take on sometimes take on a life of their own and just won't go away. That's just how they can be sometimes and no ones knows if it will be "clean" and go to plan or if we'll "win the battle but lose the war". These conflicts are VERY expensive and we in this country seldom give diplomats the credit they deserve in their efforts to allow countries to coexist peacefully. Part of our economic difficulties today are due to our years in Iraq.
