"However, as of 2008 the Repubs openly declared themselves to be opposed to any and every initiative of the President and his allies. This same party by 2010 had almost to a man signed the pledge of allegiance to the random nincompoop who has sworn to destroy government."

What abject bullshit.

A level of obstruction is to be expected in the best of cooperative times. In perspective, it's just a part of negotiating.

However, as of 2008 the Repubs openly declared themselves to be opposed to any and every initiative of the President and his allies. This same party by 2010 had almost to a man signed the pledge of allegiance to the random nincompoop who has sworn to destroy government. It hasn't been subtle or gradual, they've just opted for self destruction.

It's not just words but deeds: Obstruct any attempt to control climate change; destroy environmental regulation; let rich people take all the money; flood the nation with guns.

I have searched and scoured for any constructive thing the Repubs have proposed, and I have come up empty. I've asked multiple times here on the forum -- and zilch. Nobody can name a single useful proposal by Repubs.

"Last I heard, the Republicans in Congress want to do nothing, be nothing, and prevent the Democrats from doing anything."

This kind of thing goes both ways. Repubs often complain that Dems get in the way of good programs they are trying to pass. Usually, but not always, defense-related. Remember, it was a Repub Congress that passed GWB's Medicare Part D (prescription drugs) over heated Democratic opposition.

Over the past few decades Dems in Congress generally have shown more deference to Repub Presidential initiatives than Repub Congressmen have shown to Dem Presidents. But levels of obstruction have ebbed and flowed, on both sides.

This is news to me. Last I heard, the Republicans in Congress want to do nothing, be nothing, and prevent the Democrats from doing anything.

it has 500+ "of its own" attempting to be all things to all people. Plus, one extra from either party sitting in the big house who either wants to fill a promise he made, or attempt to make history. Either way, many unsound things are done, and dollars spent to benefit these folks.

"The government wants more to expand and be all things to all people."

I did not know "the government" had desires of its own.

Jinx:

The government is able to grow, only because the businessmen fail to provide. If the businessmen provided more than the basics of survival... They would have the loyalty of the people... As the only thing the right and businessmen can say is to degrade the worth of men... You lose the loyalty of men and the real men of this nation vote liberal so to bitch slap you with taxation as you fail to be member of our society and choose the betterment of your countrymen over yourself.

The government wants more to expand and be all things to all people.

Additionally, the more you just 'share' with someone does not have much correlation to them taking care of many of the things government will do for them.

Actually it makes a great deal of sense.

If the businessmen were to share their wealth, more people would have more wealth to pay for their own needs and wants. Instead, the government must tax the businessman for the needs and a small amount more for the wants of the masses so that the economy can continue to remain on life support.

This necessary taxation, generates waste. Paying the government workers and cost of taxation for the welfare system... Paying for the cost of managing the welfare system... It all causes the government to tax the wealthy at a 2:1 if not 3:1 raitio of what they would have paid should the wealthy shared their wealth.

It is because of the greed with our current business model that so much is wasted on a governmental system which keeps the public at bay and the radicals from convincing the masses to revolt against the system... There by imposing communism or socialism.

History explains this progression very clearly... You simply wish to ignore it because you don't see the underlining facts that the US public is no different than the rest of the world... Were human and we do have wants which must be met or will be met at the point of the swords which will belong to the masses, not the wealthy.
