1) What does the world expect to happen when you have two groups with diametrically opposing views of how a nation should be run? Violence will erupt when neither side may go off and form their own nation. To think otherwise is not only foolish, but dangerously foolish.

2) This said, we still have no business launching any attacks on the Syrian military or its government. Neither the US nor any other nation has given up their rights of self governance, to a global government.

If your morals demand military action, gather together those who think as you. Pull your collective wealth and buy military equipment from the black market and then enter into Syria... After you resign your US citizenship so we may call you a terrorist. Should you become a prisoner of the Syrian government, your fate is up to your captures.

3) Let us not forget that many religious mouth pieces for the Syrian Rebels believe that Syria should be a Muslim nation and that the Christians must leave. (This was quoted some time ago)

So by supporting a side who allows its religious leaders to call for running their countrymen out of their own nation, we would be supporting a new government which seeks to purify itself of other religions and subjugate other human beings.... this being fact... what makes the Rebels any better than Assad who is doing the very thing that the US government would do if any group tried to overthrow it?

"Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said his country would stop Syrian refugees if they tried to cross into the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights. "If we have to stop waves of refugees, we will stop them," Barak said.

The Associated Press explains:

The deteriorating situation in Syria has become a mounting concern for Israel, which fears that the collapse of a central regime would give Lebanese Hezbollah militants an opportunity to raid Syrian military arsenals for chemical weapons or sophisticated missiles that could strike Israel. The Syrian-backed Hezbollah warred Israel to a draw in the summer of 2006.

Israeli defense officials also fear that Syrian territory bordering the Golan could become a haven for militant groups, much like Egypt's Sinai desert has become a launching pad for attacks on southern Israel. "

BEIRUT (AP) — Syrian forces struck back against rebels Thursday with attack helicopters and shelling in Damascus, one day after an audacious rebel attack in the capital killed three leaders of the regime and left President Bashar Assad's hold on power increasingly tenuous.

The whereabouts of President Bashar Assad, his wife and their three young children were not known. Although Assad does not appear in public frequently, his absence was notable following such a serious blow his inner circle.

Thousands of Syrians streamed across the Syrian border into Lebanon, fleeing as fighting in the capital entered its fifth straight day, witnesses said. Residents near the Masnaa crossing point — about 25 miles (40 kilometers) from Damascus — said hundreds of private cars as well as taxis and buses were ferrying people across.

Maj. Gen. Robert Mood, the Norwegian head of nearly 300 unarmed U.N. observers in Syria, condemned the violence and encouraged a diplomatic solution, which appears increasingly out of reach. He spoke just hours before a planned U.N. Security council vote on whether to renew the mission's mandate, which expires Friday, and impose new sanctions on the Damascus regime.
