"Damn you are dumb"

That's the understatement of the year. One of our local feed stores the owner has degrees in husbandry, business, and accounting.

As far as city farming~farmers have advocated for years that city folks take more responsibility for the food. Problem is zoning laws prevent many from growing crops and raising livestock. City folk not farming/gardening is not because farmers frown on it. It is because some city folk are uppity, and others ignorant. They spend too much time worrying about their neighbor instead of themselves.

I fail to see where you think Agricultural Science Degrees are farming... They aren't. These people as you have pointed out are researchers, they do not produce a product like green beans... they research how to make the green bean better, how to grow more crops.

All the farmer must do is be told how and where to plow and what to grow and when to grow it.

The person with the Agricultural Science Degree gives the farmer the tools, the farmer only must do what they are told by the guys with the Agricultural Science Degrees.

There are thousands of acres here they farm rice, sugar cane, beans and crawfish, These farms will never not be farms.

Robert the more you open your mouth the more you show your ignorance.

Have you not heard of : Agricultural Science Degrees ?

You can earn an agricultural science degree in many areas and at both undergraduate and graduate degree levels. Agribusiness, animal science, natural resources, agricultural education and forestry are all considered part of the agriculture industry according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and agriculture schools. You can study food science, animal husbandry, farming and veterinary medicine through agriculture science departments at colleges and universities around the country. There are even agricultural engineering and teaching certificate programs.

Associate's degree programs in the agricultural sciences include turfgrass management, forest technology, agricultural business, wildlife technology, food science and other areas. Bachelor's degree programs include agricultural extension education, biological engineering, agroecology, food science and more. Master's degree programs include agricultural education, agricultural economics, agribusiness and others. You can earn a doctoral degree in agricultural science that focuses on crop science, human nutrition, teaching and research.

Here is just one major college close to me Virginia Tech go to their website and learn before you post. Have included one sample of the courses they offer.

College of Agriculture & Life Sciences Agribusiness The Agribusiness Management Option prepares students to enter the largest industry in the world the food industry and the giant agribusiness complex. Courses in accounting, economics, statistics, computer techniques, marketing, and agricultural policy supplement an agricultural economics base enabling B.S. graduates to obtain the skills necessary to become managers in the agricultural sector. The option allows students to concentrate in Agricultural Finance, Farm Business Management, Marketing, Futures and Prices, along with other minors. Careers in farm business and finance, farm operation and management and credit. In recent years, opportunities in the finance and credit fields have increased tremendously. The options prepare the student for entering careers of marketing agricultural commodities including investment analysis and research. Emphasis includes business, statistics, and price analysis. Especially attractive opportunities prevail in the growing field of commodity futures. The option also encourages students to work towards establishing and running their own businesses.

Farming is more than picking crops. And I'm not sure you would be qualified to pick crops.

"meat,dairy product,grain based products??? "

1) meat and dairy products will remain for the time the only thing the farmers will have left and we are already working on cloning meat from stem cells. The benefits of milk can be obtained from vitamins.

2) grain is a plant, given time it can be grown in a lab as well.

"I am glad you think that running a farm is for the uneducated people. You should try it and see how well you do at running a farm."

Do you go to college to learn to farm? Are Illegal Aliens which pick our food from the farms not uneducated or under educated?

Understand that the term educated means formal education, it means that you have a degree or certificate (many places don't accept certificates and see them as lazy mans college.).

I am rather encouraged by this technology.

ht tp://ww w.cityscapefarms.co m/soillessfarming/

Not only will it feed the starving world wide by placing the food local to the hungry... without regard for the type of land, but it can be used with less healthy GM foods which aren't meant for human consumption as a means of creating bio-fuels and plastics.

Cities could become self-dependent from the farming communities which hate the cities anyway. (look where the republicans vs democrats are) No more need for farm subsidies to farmers who want small government... Each city could produce its own food, reduce transport and growth cost, create their own cleaner refineries, ect...

Of course this will kill low education or no education jobs... There by requiring people to get a college level education, just to provide food. But the tech will also be a stepping stone to space exploration as we would be able to grow our food in space stations... Now how do we make gravity so to grow the food? 2001 space odyssey anyone? (spinning the exterior of the ship so to create gravity.)
