Well then, let's go back to the original question by Polygirl. What do we think of the "fat ...piece of lard...?". My original comment was that I think he's (Michael Moore) an idiot, albeit a very rich one. I am not stating that as an opinion, but a fact. For someone to try to un-prove it would be a daunting task.

The second part of my comments was more rhetorical than anything else. If someone was to say that I stole a particular item a few years ago to people who may not know any better, how would I go about proving that I didn't? People can take my word but it doesn't prove or un-prove anything.

On Michael Moore - Simply put: I have no respect for idiots.

The problem with the Moore types is proving the unprovable. He can present circumstances as "fact" and then it's up to those who do not agree to prove it otherwise. This is a political tactic he uses (and others) to get his views across in hopes that he can build momentum and alliances. Unfortunately, "others" include those with whom I share the same ideology.

(continued for last post)

Those who have risked their lives and fled in rafts and small boats from Cuba tell a different story on Cuba’s “great” health care. Immigrants complain that foreign "health tourists" paying with foreign currency and senior Communist party officials receive a higher quality of care than Cuban citizens. Former leading Cuban neurosurgeon and dissident Dr Hilda Molina asserts that the central revolutionary objective of free, quality medical care for all has not been true since that early 1970s. It has been eroded by Cuba's need for foreign currency and Cuba’s best doctors are either assigned to take care of Cuba’s senior leadership or are traded to countries like Venuzuala. Molina states that following the economic collapse known in Cuba as the Special Period, the Cuban Government established mechanisms designed to turn the medical system into a profit-making enterprise. This creates an enormous disparity in the quality of healthcare services between foreigners and Cubans leading to what Cubans describe as “tourist apartheid“. It also created a corrupt medical system where foreign patients are routinely inadequately or falsely informed about their medical conditions to increase their medical bills or to hide the fact that Cuba often advertises medical services it is unable to provide. Cuba then uses these “foreign patient” statistics as part of their reporting to the WHO in an effort to bolster their claims of medical achievement, while the WHO applies the medical diagnosis of the Cuban doctors to the statistics of the country that the foreigner is a legal resident of.

Moore does not even use all of the WHO study he initially refers to. The study that places the United States 37th and places such as Canada, France, England etc, ahead of the United States also has a narrative that reflects the care referred to in that report is BASIC care, NOT advanced or specialized medicine. The report reflects that the waiting periods for referrals in countries like Canada can be extremely long compared to the United States. The report also reflects that in the United States appointments with Doctors are managed well where patients in Canada, Britain and France can wait 4 to 8 hours after they arrive for their appointment before seeing a doctor. The report also reflects that those who have the monetary means do not seek surgeries in Canada, France, Britain etc., but come to the United States and pay for same.

Finally the WHO has had in the last 4 years over 700 medical personnel resign claiming the WHO has an extreme political agenda and therefore their findings always reflect that agenda - socialism and a new world order.

All the reports I have seen, whether they are CNN, MSNBC, CBS, Fox News and read, AP, UPI, USA Today all say the same thing about Moore’s film. The statistics he refers to are the stats provided by the World Health Organization (WHO), but it is the stats that he omits or ignores that gives his film a very biased, and therefore an inaccurate final analysis.

He uses an WHO study that claims the United States is 37th in effective health care. Yet he does not mention another WHO study where the United States is Number One - Consumer Health Care Satisfaction. Moore claims that Cuba has a low infant mortality rate, but does not point out that Cuba has selective state ordered abortions that keep that rate low. The WHO claims that as of the 1990s Cuba no longer imprisons or terminates those with chronic deceases such as Aids/HIV, tuberculosis etc., yet Human Rights Groups, to include the United Nations disagree with this. In Cuba it is MANDATORY for all persons to be tested for transmitted deceases such as HIV and there is no confidentiality between Doctor/Patient. The state controls everything rights to privacy do not exist. Cuba being a closed country is allowed to report their stats to the WHO, they are taken at face value, where open border countries are actually studied from within by the WHO. In 1957 Cuba had over 480 Hospitals and Clinics, by the 1980s that was down to 240. Today Cuba has less then 170 operating Medical facilities and those are lacking in cleanliness and equipment standards. (continued...........)
