Why do you see this as who has more merit instead of people expressing themselves or telling about their experience? Why does it have to be an assumption of the worst about anyone that has a different experience and would like to express it? The point, before your heroic deflection, was that just because you are a conservative does not mean you have exclusive right to have a 'Horatio Alger' story, not that I'm trying to 'shut down' Gina. It's not a deflection regardless of how hard you'll try to paint it as such, it's a fact. Gina expressed her experience and how she handled hardship which, as a result helped form her opinion. What's wrong with that? I have no idea who or what Horatio Alger is.

It details the drifting of our mission with our military from one of a war machine used in defence of ourselves and our our allies by a conscripted population (from the ENTIRE population) that included all levels of society to a military that looks more like a police force focused mainly on police actions and comprised mainly of poor volunteers. It makes a lot of sense. Our fathers had the shared experience early in life (Repubs and Dems, rich and poor, etc) that taught them how to interact and work together despite those differences, our current youth not so much.
