It was reported last week that seven-year-old Josh Welch of Brooklyn Park, Maryland, was suspended for two days after he allegedly fashioned his breakfast pastry into the shape of a gun by taking bites from it until it vaguely resembled a gun. He then pointed it at another student. The elementary school that was the scene of Josh's brutal rampage sent students home Friday with a letter describing the incident: ------------- Dear Parents and Guardians: I am writing to let you know about an incident that occurred this morning in one of our classrooms and encourage you to discuss this matter with your child in a manner you deem most appropriate. During breakfast this morning, one of our students used food to make inappropriate gestures that disrupted the class. While no physical threats were made and no one [was] harmed, the student had to be removed from the classroom. As you are aware, the ... Code of Student Conduct and appropriate consequences related to violations of the code are clearly spelled out in the Student Handbook, which was sent home during the first week of school and can be found on our website. If your children express that they are troubled by today's incident, please talk with them and help them share their feelings. Our school counselor is available to meet with any students who have the need to do so next week. In general, please remind them of the importance of making good choices. ----------------- I think I'd need about 4 weeks on the couch of a therapist to deal with such a traumatizing event. Of course, the therapist would have to be some hot woman who joined me on the couch. I think I'd be OK then. I think if you're child is "troubled" by someone taking a few bites of a Pop Tart and waving it around you're a failure as a parent anyway, so what difference does it make?

Media outlets report the 7-year-old boys were suspended for two days for a violation of the Suffolk school system’s zero-tolerance policy on weapons. They were playing with one another in class Friday at Driver Elementary. “When I asked him about it, he said, ‘Well I was being a Marine and the other guy was being a bad guy,’” said Paul Marshall, one of the boys’ fathers. “It’s as simple as that.” Suffolk Public Schools spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw said a pencil is considered a weapon when it’s pointed at someone in a threatening way and gun noises are made. “Some children would consider it threatening, who are scared about shootings in schools or shootings in the community,” Bradshaw said. “Kids don’t think about ‘Cowboys and Indians’ anymore, they think about drive-by shootings and murders and everything they see on television news every day.”

Maximum profits in short order of time made the businessmen feel good. The immediate profit the working man reaps from this is seeing action come from his/her demand and a burden being lifted from their shoulders. Same concept, different reward.

They no longer think outside the box. All they care about is how it will work out for them and they don't care how it may effect some one else down the road. They think with their hearts not their minds. They want to pass feel good laws not ones that will work.

User Details are only visible to members.	Va: This is what happens when blanket demands to make our kids safer are made. Why are such blanket demands made? Because the people making them do not have time to think about the demands they make. Why? Because they must work 10-12 hours a day at two jobs just to get by. Like their employers; these people have lost any care for reasons why the demand isn't fulfilled. So the schools must blindly obey and make secured the kids. It is all circular, it all starts with the employer beating the worker, the worker returns the favor upon the schools and the schools being at the center of any society... Must obey and enforce upon the students societies new rules. Oh and then you have insurance issues. Companies taught the worker to obtain money by any means possible, so law suits against the schools became common when a child is hurt, even by another student. So you remove the dangerious items, any item which maybe used as a weapon. They would remove the pencils and pens if they could.

Despite the fact that all potentially hazardous items were kept out of the students' reach, school officials at Washington Irving Elementary School informed Doug Bartlett, a 17-year veteran in the classroom, that his use of the tools as visual aids endangered his students. Bartlett was subsequently penalized with a four-day suspension without pay - charged with possessing, carrying, storing or using a weapon. ----- Jesus Christ... when I was in the 6th grade I made a lamp out of a block of wood with a lathe in school... we were using bandsaws, drill presses, etc... now if you show the kids a screwdriver you're hit with weapons charges?

User Details are only visible to members.	In MN those signs do not apply to those with a valid CCW permit. The owner/agent has to approach you and tell you individually to not take a firearm inside, or to leave if you are already inside with one. If you don't leave, you can get a citation for a petty misdemeanor- if you wait around long enough for a police officer to arrive and write the ticket.
