Actually whether Canada was or was not involved in Vietnam is disputed by their very own Liberal reporting CBC. http: // archives dot cbc dot ca/IDD-1-71-1413/conflict_war/vietnam/ Many American "foot" soldiers have claimed they served and worked side by side with Canadians. This contradicts the Canadian governments claims that no Canadian forces were deployed to Vietnam. The official version is that Canada only provided bases in Europe (NATO) for training of our forces and that the Canadian government primarily sold and supplied non-combative equipment i.e., boots, canteens etc. The other official version is that Canadian forces only monitored the final years leading to the cease fire. However, the CBC, British MI5 and the CIA tell a different story.

Is General Odom - former head of the NSA, Reagan Republican - suddenly ignorant to the degree that he would step before Congress and testify that there were no WMDs when the prevailing view in the Intelligence Community is that Saddam somehow spirited the WMDs out of the country moments before we invaded? The point is - once again - that there are two sets of "facts" in America, which makes bipartisan consensus impossible.

He told one of his callers the other day not to put a bumper sticker on his car because a "lib might key it". I almost fell on the floor laughing. Does he actually believe that we are that divided as a country or is this guy fear mongering? Then there's the maven on misinformation Ann Coulter, She goes on Canadian Broadcasting and tells the host that Canada is allied with the terrorist because they refuse to send troops to Iraq like they did in Vietnam. The host corrected the dummy and told her that Canada never fought in Vietnam. Still, she persisted in her argument. Its all over youtube and really fascinating stuff. Then there's Malkin who writes a book that SUPPORTED internment of the Japanese Americans and then had the audacity to call for Norman Mineta to be fired. Nevermind the fact that Clinton apologized for the actions years before. This broad is a Filipina- American. How can any sane person take these people seriously? Fascism is truly a mental disorder. It can be treated though, if turn the stupid tube off and dont read there books.

I've been absent here for awhile - partially because I spent a few days in Cozumel with an old familiar friend, partially because work has been hopping (and fun), partially because, as I said before, we're at a point where there are two sets (or more) of facts, and dialogue becomes a screaming match with no chance of commonality. I leave offering the testimony of William Odom in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee last week. Odom was head of the NSA under Reagan. "The president stated three war aims clearly and repeatedly: * the destruction of Iraqi WMD; * the overthrow of Saddam Hussein; and * the creation of a liberal democratic Iraq. The first war aim is moot because Iraq had no WMD. The second was achieved by late Spring 2003. Today, people are waking up to what was obvious before the war -- the third aim has no real prospects of being achieved even in ten or twenty years, much less in the short time anticipated by the war planners."
