Original Starting post for this thread:
There was a story on our local news the other night where the government is considering PAYING parents to get involved with their children's education. This is (from what I gathered from the story) for low income minorities. Parents will be given money to go to parent teacher confences, if their children do well on tests, attendance, going to PTO meetings and a large bonus for their kids graduating.

Is this right? Even if I am mistaking whether or not it is only for minorities, should the government PAY parents to get involved with their kids education? How many more hand-outs is our government going to give people? Should parents be more concerned about their children's education? I believe so. Should the government BRIBE parents to do what they should be doing already? Maybe the government will pay boys/men to pull their pants up next. Or pay some of the girls to wear longer skirts. Parents should not be buying their 14-17 year old daughters airplane skirts to begin with (for those who don't know an airplane skirt is one so short when the woman bends over you can see her cock-pit). Has our country gone down hill so bad that some parents have to be paid to do what they are supposed to do anyway? What's next paying parents to make their kids eat vegetables? How about the government pay sperm doners to hang around and be a father to their creations? How about giving girls money to remain pure until they wed? Or giving girls money not to get knocked up at 12-17?

Oh they all kind of hint that Americans can change their own destiny, but it's usually connected to a voting for them. They don't actually tell people that they can't solve problems the people themselves can solve. That would be too much like telling the real truth.......you silly billy................

If you don't pay taxes, you should not be allowed to vote.

" I think it will take a movement to force Americans to look in the mirror and realize that they are the answer."

Isn't that part of Obama rhetoric. You are the change that you seek?

Heard that in one of his speeches...

Well you don't have to do shit for your kid to get the Earned income credit.

I've heard of this idea before, actually I have heard of an opposite idea that would fine parents for not making Parent/teacher conferences. Both I think are bad ideas. This is another example of lower expectations for the people, communities to come together and solve the problems that only they can solve. We live in a society where everyone is busy doing their own thing and this is the result. Total disconnect form our families, communities, and government. I think it will take a movement to force Americans to look in the mirror and realize that they are the answer. Don't expect to hear that from a politician anytime soon.

Since there are way too many single parents and broken homes, I guess this is what your tax dollars paying your elected officials come up with? Cut me a break, and like Dzzy, I would like to read the whole story (if there is more to it). Any parent that doesn't get involved with their children's education, should have their rights as a parent terminated, how's that one. The drug addicts and parents who simply don't give a shit will make money to actual be a parent. Sweet, can you give a link to this story?

If this is accurate, I would sure as heck be against it. How about this instead? Some people really should be paid not to ever become parents. Okay, just being a smart ass on that one. I am against government legislating moralty and responsibility let alone paying for it. Furthermore (and lets see what pandora's box this opens) we already have a program that pays people to be parents. It's called welfare.
