Original Starting post for this thread:
I have noticed some interesting correlations with the political right on these fourms.

1) most are self discribed special ops, infantrymen, Vietnam vet's. 2) most are avide gun rights activist wanting automatic weapons such as the AR-15 which appears very similar to the M-16/M4. 3) most assum that the government has been taken over by communist or socialist... The very people the Vietnam veterans fought in Korea, vietnam and the cold war.

I wonder if the cold war has had some kind of effect on their minds to have trapped them perminately in a start of fear?

During Korea, Vietnam and throughout the cold war, the training was that the bad guy was everywhere. This type of training is useful in surviving war, but it also fosters extreme paranoia.

As these mostly republican men grew from boyhood into adult hood (18-25) they were subjected to these extremes... And lived in the worst conditions imaginable, made to fear and believe that if it isn't a US American, it is the enemy.

Now one cannot say for sure that this is the case as there are lefties and centrist who weren't so damaged by these wars and the training... But we must remember that every population has those more subseptable to fear... And propaganda.

When one is forced to find anything to hold onto in war, they can be made into extremist... I wonder if this is why the tea party is primarily made up of late 40 to elderly, fear the government, fear change, fear anyone unlike the selves type of people?

What are your thoughts?

Party:

These guys think that the constitution is something that ought to be written in stone. Jefferson seems to disagree.

""Every constitution, then, and every law, naturally expires at the end of nineteen years. If it be enforced longer, it is an act of force, and not of right. It may be said, that the succeeding generation exercising, in fact, the power of repeal, this leaves them as free as if the constitution or law had been expressly limited to nineteen years only. In the first place, this objection admits the right, in proposing an equivalent. But the power of repeal is not an equivalent. It might be, indeed, if every form of government were so perfectly contrived, that the will of the majority could always be obtained, fairly and without impediment. But this is true of no form. The people cannot assemble themselves; their representation is unequal and vicious. Various checks are opposed to every legislative proposition. Factions get possession of the public councils, bribery corrupts them, personal interests lead them astray from the general interests of their constituents; and other impediments arise, so as to prove to every practical man, that a law of limited duration is much more manageable than one which needs a repeal." --Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, 1789. Norcal..I'm not scared by any label, especially ones as subjective and ambiguous as "socialist", and especially when, whatever you choose to call a mixed economy, it is a necessity to operate as a functioning society in the 20th and 21st centuries. Look back at the graveyard of dead societies from Egypt to Greece to Rome to Victorian Spain to the Ottoman empire, and you will find thay ALL had one thing in common in their final days...they neglected their public institutions and public infrastructure. Today, the Hoover dam, The TVA, the interstate highway system, Snow-Rockefeller, and dozens of other Government projects that make life as we know it in America possible, would never make it past the GOP house and make NO mistake, NO PRIVATE sector company would have touched ANY of those projects with a 10 foot poll.

Party Nope it is the same as the old USSR. It is the same as the democratic socialism of Europe of the last 40 years. Those on the right may not want it but it is too late it is already here. Those on the left are scared by the label but that is what they are. Then there is Robert. He wants the government to provide everything for every person. He does not get that many many millions of people in our country have accomplished great things but not until they took responsibility for themselves and their own future. Robert preaches communism he thinks that everything should be given to him. He will not take responsibility for himself and his own success but blames everyone and everything else for his failure to thrive. Robert wants to discount the wisdom that older people have accumulated in their lives because he has none. I have lived in 11 different countries for over 6 months and 7 different states. I've been back to college three different times in pursuit of three different degrees but in his mind I have no knowledge, no pertinent experience, and no wisdom. I won't die rich but I won't die stupid either.

Sorry, I tried, he doesn't want to listen to anyone. Even Scandle, the most rational and calm person in these fora just ridiculed him. He's a dolt.

*here comes the sap that Mr. VA can be*

Sed,

Robert needs information, not ridicule. Ridicule only puts him on the defensive. I have been guilty of this (as have almost everyone here) at times.

To quote someone who said it privately - hence I shall not identify them - "Robert is unreachable". I hope that's not the case. I don't think Robert's dumb. I don't think he's hopeless.

I once said to someone (I forget who) "I think I believe in you more than you do". I believe in the power of the determined, intelligent person. If Robert ever finds his way, he'll do fine.

My message, as always, to Robert is this: I really do wish you well. Honest. I do not bullshit on here. I wish for you to one day realize that you are the master of your destiny - not by virtue of your vote, but by virtue of your deeds. If your deeds do not bring you the dividend you expect, perform some self-introspection and ask why, rather than try to blame others. Cause brings about effect. If your cause does not bring about the effect you intended, think about it, rather than try to blame someone else.

To quote (as best I can remember) tbr: "Robert.. I hear you saying a lot about how you can't. Tell me how you can."

You get run out of the Open Forum regularly, you are the laughing stock of this forum too. You were mocked by Liberals, you are mocked by Conservatives, day in, day out. Heck, you were even mocked and tortured by kids in school way before they even figured out what their political affiliation will be. But if it makes you sleep better in your leaky rusty 1970 jeep, by lying to yourself that only Conservatives are making fun of you, by all means do.
