It is only fair to compare the state population to your population if gun advocates who protested. NYC population, ball park of over a million people... Seven million at any one time. I don't care what your state capital's population numbers at... When you want to play number games, allowing you to see what part of the population didn't show up is equally important.

The rally was originally planned as a smaller show of support to recognize National Gun Appreciation Day. However, the protest took on a life of its own in the days after Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the NY SAFE Act, the nation's now strictest gun legislation. Gun rights supporters came from all over Western New York, clearly outraged. They feel as if the SAFE Act tramples on their second amendment rights. Lenny Roberts, founder of Primary Challenge, told the crowd "We are not going to let them strip us of our arms, we are not going to let them make us defenseless." The crowd was full of passion and anger. Protestors chanted "traitor, traitor," speaking of local legislatures that voted for the bill. Most of the anger was directed towards Cuomo. At one point, the crowd broke out into a chant of "impeach Cuomo." Activist Carl Paladino spoke about politicians, saying "You give them an inch, they'll take a mile. And that's what you're seeing today." Protestors were furious, saying the SAFE Act turns them into criminals.

User Details are only visible to members.	What's peaceful about an assault weapon? There are tens of thousands of people who shoot competition with AR's. They have chosen this platform because they work best for their sport. Shooting is a sport that has hundreds of thousands of participants in our country. AR's come in two basic types, a longer action .308 length, and the shorter .223 length. Both of these calibers started out as military but now the .308 is a very popular hunting round and the .223 has become the preferred varmint or small game caliber for many hunters. The AR's are just the modern platform of these sporting calibers. The AR platform is very versatile. I can change the caliber of my longer AR from .308 to 7MM08 or .243 win in about 30 seconds by detaching one upper receiver and attaching another. The same with the shorter version of this type of rifle's interchangeable upper receivers make it the most versatile rifle ever made. Millions of rounds of ammo is expended through the AR's in this country every month. Almost none of them are fired in anger, almost all of them are fired by recreational shooters in the legal pursuit of their chosen sport. Almost all AR's are used for non threatening and non lethal legal activity by good people who follow the laws of our nation. It goes back to the statistics, the real numbers. Rifles of all kinds account for a very small percentage of the firearm caused deaths in this country. When you compare the number of the so called "assault rifles" against all of the weapons that have killed people in this country it is less than one percent. The flip side of that coin then must be that over 99% of these rifles are used for legal and peaceful uses. Numbers do not lie but politicians and the liberal media never let numerical facts get in the way of instigating a good public panic to allow them to push more restraints and controls on our population. You can not use complete, real, and up to date numbers to reach the conclusion that AR's have no non criminal use or purpose. Those numbers, taken in total, compiled and published by our own federal government, are a landslide against that position. Knives, or hammers, or rocks, or the hands and feet of a parent kill many times more children each and every year than assault rifles do. And I do believe that hands and feet are also often used for good things. Are you going to push for limits on them as well??? Actually there are laws about using hands and feet in that manner already and if has not stopped their deadly use. Any of these other weapons are, by provable fact, guilty of many more times the deaths in our country each year than all rifles put together.

User Details are only visible to members.	And if you have someone carrying a weapon in a peaceful manner then he may be able to stop someone who uses one in an non-peaceful manner. And with only about 300 rifles used in murders per year I am sure that will make a big difference in murders. And please tell me what is an assault rifle!!
