User Details are only visible to members.	The questions are still valid. Without knowing who you are, you cannot know what you want. Without knowing what you want, how are you to know who to trust? While the questions are designed for an indiciduals answer, they do apply to a community. If the community doesn't know who they are, how is that community to know what they want and who do they trust? As for the who do you serve bit? We all serve someone, but not all of us know who we serve and why we serve them.

User Details are only visible to members.	Cplo: We both can try a tit for tat. You see how it is outside the reservations. How we eat our own. The elderly workers are fired or laid off on hardships by the companies and they are tossed aside like trash by their families who are fighting for the scraps that employers feed them. Ever walk into a retirement home? Everyone that I or anyone that I know who has, has typically said the same thing about them... The residents aren't anything but empty husk, worked so hard in life and left broken by everyone around them. We can't even take care of our own elderly, how do you expect us to fix a dying people when our own culture is just as empty inside? Knowing this, what plan do the educated natives have to save their culture? What end game goal do they have? To quote Babylon five. 1) who are you. 2) what do you want. 3) and who do you serve, who do you trust?

But seriously though, it's only been in the last 5 years that I've really been exposed to Native life, and my exposure to it is still somewhat limited. Before hooking up with R, I was under the general (ignorant) impression that Native Americans were living and thriving just like the rest of us and that life on the reservation was some sort of perfect blend of Native tradition with modern comforts. Turns out that's not the least bit true. Tribes are struggling. Drugs and alcohol are an epidemic. Their culture has been reduced to Casinos, novelty head dresses and dream catchers. They're sterotyped as drunks and addicts because the gov't opened a pipeline for drugs and alcohol to the reservations, much like the ghettos, because a drunk or high Injun is easier to control. It's amazing really when you think about it how much work has been done over the years in the name of civil rights and equality in this country and how little of it has actually applied to the people were here long before anyone else. T

Your way of thinking is what put my people in the place that they are now. How can you think "there isn't much that can be done unless the natives allow the white dominated agencies to force edication and our ways down their throats." The violence and anger that you hear about is a true byproduct of that very method! That violent and angry method was and still is the issue! You may wonder why there is no trust, well, just look at what you just said...white dominated...take a step back. Let me reverse roles on this so you can see it in another way and understand a different side a little better. Then tell me how you feel...does your blood boil? Do you feel like fighting? How does it feel? Please do tell! ------ If you are not of Aboriginal descent Leave. If by some chance you have some affinity for this land, youmay stay but you are subject to the Whiteman Act. SECTION 1. All Whites must carry a card identifying that they are white. SECTION 2. All whites must live on reservations. This is to protect the Whiteculture from any influence of Indian culture. These reservations will be setout, but the ruling Indians and all Whites must move to one immediately regardless of travel. Note: this land is held in trust for the Whites since they do not know how to use the land, thus the Indian government has full control of housing and resources on the reservation. SECTION 3. No Whites is allowed to leave the Reservation for longer than six months or else he/she will no longer be White, thus being thrown off the reservation away from home, family and friends. Regardless if the White has gone to fight in the World Wars, found work off the reservation or going to University, they will lose their status. SECTION 4. All reservations will be forced to elect a chief. If the Department of White Affairs does not like the elected Chief and Council they reserve the right to replace them. SECTION 5. Christian ceremonies are now banned. Since it is known that Whites have bad knees, and that Christianity has a savage kneeling ritual all Christians must be converted to Native Spirituality. SECTION 6. No White is allowed to consume alcohol off the reservation.Since it is well documented that Whites are alcoholics, they should not consume any alcohol. SECTION 7. All reservations will have a White Agent which in fact will decide everything from who will be chief to who can have a child. SECTION 8. If at anytime the ruling Indian government needs land it reserves the right to take the land from the reservation. For more information about the Whiteman Act please consult the Indian Act. R

User Details are only visible to members.	Next @norcalcouple100 You are partially correct in your alcohol and meth comment but that is only part of it. It is a cooping mechanism to numb the pain of the depression that has swallowed up our hope and faith which enhances the violence and dispair. R

Starting at the beginning here....@Nkenswing - The reports are close but not all are reported(not only to federal reports but to rez reports) because of the trust issues. The reports that were mentioned as far as the Anchorage police officer and a Native Alaskan, you have to ask yourself, was police officer native? When I was an officer on the rez, I was the only "Native" police officer, all others were non-natives. I can't tell you how many times I was told that I was the only one the community trusted. As for the abuse of one woman fleeing to a shelter and the tribe helping to bring them back, sadly, yes it happens. No denying that but a little insight on the situation would be nice. Was the acting court/LEO rez or non-rez? Was the tribe acting as a protector for the culture and the human rights or were they trying to keep the woman safe within the tribe and she ended up with the Stockholm's Syndrom? There are so many questions for this situation. One thing I have learned in my experience is every situation is different and every outcome is equally different. One more thing...."Wonder what makes those guys so violent?" this hurts...not only me but the culture and the people who live it. The constant suppression and lack of acceptance from so many, through many years; this creates a monster within and takes even longer to escape it. Our culture is learning to escape it as we speak....the violence is dissipating and it just takes time. Do not judge your neighbor until you walk two moons in his moccasins. R
