Face it, college has become grades 13,14,15 and 16.

What once was good pay for a two to four year degree has gone to doctorats and other six year degree learners. Actually you need to major in no less than 2 careers and minor in three if you want to be competitive.

Correlation is not always causality. We certainly have a confounding factor:

Those not motivated to get an education are probably also not very motivated to improve themselves in other ways.

There was a time when it was possible, but those days are over. This is why the unemployment rate for 4 College grads us under 4%, while the over all rate is at 7.9, HS grads is 8.1 and less than HS is 12% (see the chart below) Put quite frankly, the jobs uneducated people used to work in have either been artificially deflated though "right to work" stupidity and self loathing, or have been exported to slave labor markets.

Less than a high school diploma

Civilian labor force

Unemployment rate 15.0 12.3 13.9 13.1 11.2 12.2 12.1 11.7 12.0

High school graduates, no college(1)

Unemployment rate 9.5 8.1 9.1 8.5 8.6 8.3 8.1 8.0 8.1

Some college or associate degree

Unemployment rate 7.5 6.7 7.3 7.3 6.5 7.0 6.6 6.9 7.0

Bachelor's degree and higher(2)

4.4 3.8 3.9 4.2 4.0 3.7 3.9 3.9 3.7

My brother in law, high school drop out, now with a GED and zip college. Started unloading trucks at UPS part time when he was 18. 2 years later he was a package car driver. He earns better than 85k annually, and phenomenal benefits including retirement. He knew nobody at UPS, but was willing to work.

Face it Bobby, what these examples show is people willing to WORK. To sit around and whine makes you a drain on society or a liberal. Your refusal to work, and making demands that others support you in a lifestyle you wish to become accustomed to is not going to happen. --regardless of how many times you vote for owebama.

I was trying to go with examples as recent as possible to try to thwart any "that may have worked for your generation..." arguments.

Hubby, dropped out of college in his second year. Got a job for Xerox as a trainee to fix copiers. In 3 years he became the head of the entire division. From there he moved to Merryl Lynch with zero experience in a certain field, zero (I can not share what field, it's too small and too niche). Within 2 years within that group, he had 12 people reporting to him. He's not been with ML for about 15 years, he's in the banking industry doing what he did for ML. He's running all of North America, started out as an officer.

Another sister in law dropped out in her freshman year of college in about 1999. She worked a bunch of do-nothing jobs for years (waitressing, etc) but somehow got a job doing video editing about 3 years ago. She now works as a freelance producer, making TV commercials, including many you have no doubt seen.
