"Pick a Democracy and we'll discuss it. Since when does a social theory perfectly fit every example? Name one Social theory that does."

Is that how this works? You posit a theory about the "historical cycle" of democracies and when you can't cite even one historical example of it occurring, it becomes my job to pick democracies one by one to prove the negative? (Actually, I already did that by mentioning Chile, Thailand, and Yugoslavia; the crickets chirped).

Your vaunted theory is that democracies "always" collapse due to loose fiscal policy, inevitably leading back to dictatorship and monarchy. When you can't cite even one historical example of that occurring, it becomes my job to disprove it?

Oh, and your implicit admission that the Lifecycle theory doesn't "perfectly fit every example" is pretty funny. Try coming up with even one example that even roughly fits the theory first. You've had over a year to do so.

Will today be the day Perf finally quits dodging the question and either puts up or shuts up? I doubt it.

"Note to VAbeach

Just want to make sure you see who bumped this thread that is 341 days old. . LOL.

And this is the guy that thinks HE occupies space in MY brain. That's absolutely HYSTERICAL!! I'm sure everyone except TBR and maybe Mrs Sav can see the irony in it.

"From the very first time I weighed in on this topic last year (in your thread devoted to the soundbite), I asked where's the beef. Where could we read anything fleshing out these "stages?" What historical examples fit the theory or offer any predictive qualities for American democracy?"

I made that comment in another thread, but after scanning this thread I have to eat some crow. It seems I didn't pose those questions in my very first post; it wasn't until my second post in this thread that I did so. My bad.

When Perf dodged those questions, I asked them again. He slinked away from this thread without answering them. I brought them up again a couple of months ago in another thread, but we are still waiting on Perf to provide us with any historical examples of a democracy that went through those stages on its way back to dictatorship due to loose fiscal policy.

My idea of a soundbite mentality is one that spouts shallow and simplistic fluff with no substance or critical analysis. Soundbiters often dodge or duck legitimate questions asking if there's any historical evidence to support the fluff. The truly amusing ones then complain that no one else wants to dig into the substance.

Just:

Any man who is an employer and not paying a wage which grows the economy by their employees not qualifying for any government assistance, didn't earn jack shit.

Any company which exports their work, and must import parts form the 3rd world, aren't employing Americans. They aren't doing their work and only are wealthy because we the people of the US allow them to be so to feed scraps which do not promote growth in the US.

You on the right are the ones not pulling your weight, for that we will tax you more heavily.

cplo:

When you misspell some words so completely, the auto correct either doesnt' fix it or will replace it with another word.

Case in point the quoted line has two replaced words with what the phone thought were what I wanted to text.

This is why one ought to edit their work, by totally rereading each word carefully. Doesn't mean that one would reread their work, least of all for work they aren't being paid for.

Now it's your phone's fault? You're amazing. I've got an iPhone and spell check works just fine. Are you telling me you got the only phone with a malfunctioning autocorrect? I also take time to proof read before submitting my posts. I still miss minor things from time to time, but half the crap you post is just unreadable. T
