User Details are only visible to members.	It wasn't a racist generalization. For it to have been racist it would have had to imply that blacks are inferior in some manner. Slaughtering the english language -- which many African Americans do on a daily basis -- does not make them inferior. Apathetic, maybe. Uneducated, possibly. But not inferior. The comment was a stereotype. But who cares. This is a non-issue.

Maybe I am wrong but I think Biden spoke with much the same "subconscious" institutionalized, NOT personal, racism that we all have varying levels of. In other words, I do believe he thought, as he was saying it, that the statement was an innocent compliment. Now that he is hearing the statement on playback he realizes that he spoke in a way that sounds condescending to the African-American community as a whole. I don't think he consciously meant to offend anyone. My eyes widened and I choked on my glass of water when I first heard him say it, so I understand your point on the “clean” and “articulate” - lol. However, I will not, and I would hope my conservative colleagues would not lower ourselves to use mean spirited and low balls tactics in spinning this into something it is not. The Democrats and the media made a big deal out of the comment by Trent Lott. Polls show that most Americans did NOT view the comments as they did, and therefore thought too much was being read into Lott‘s comment. As I have repeatedly stated, I give the average American credit for weeding out the BS.

User Details are only visible to members.	"Al Sharpton was in the middle of the Twana Brawley debacle. He got burned, and he learned a lesson. I feel sorry for the woman now, she was used horribly. Did the accused police officers ever get an apology?" -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Police Officers did get a public apology, not from Al, but from the city and the Mayor's office. The Officers also received a monetary settlement from the city. I give Al Sharpton his due. He still stands by the original story and believes that Brawley and the family were paid off by the city. Personally, I believe the evidence speaks for itself, but having spoken personally with Mr Sharpton, I respect his passion and conviction, even if I do not agree with his positions. I found him to be a straight shooter in his beliefs. I have attended two of his lectures and he criticized minorities, who were in the audience, just as much as he criticized white leadership. To me, he pulls no punches and comes across as an honorable and likeable human being. Although he communicates it differently then Bill Cosby, Sharpton does speak from the position that the African-American community does have opportunities in this country and must stop blaming whites for all their problems. Although he criticizes past and current white politicians and policies, he puts the emphasis on the black community to look at themselves as part of the problem and emphasizes that the growing trend of young black males not staying around to raise their children, must be solved within the black community.

User Details are only visible to members.	I guess this is where I am in the middle and piss off both sides of the isle. I do not believe that Biden's comment was racist. I believe it was meant to compliment Obama, but the way it came out was open for wide interpretation. However, I believe Biden's comments, although they should not be, are far more open to that interpretation then what Lott said. What Lott said was nothing more then buttering a retiring (and soon to pass away) old man who had served in Congress. If honoring this man in a farewell manner was a problem, why did so many democrats attend? Isn't their attendance and support of this man being honored non-verbal communication of supporting a "racist"? I never liked Strom Thurmond, but Lott's comment then, as well as Biden's now are being taken way out of context. As far as Julian Bond and Jesse Jackson, I agree they are both racist and opportunist. However, I do not feel that way about Al Sharpton. I disagree with Sharpton 90 percent of the time and he has done and supported things that did not put him in a good light, but I can say that about most people. Overall, the man does attempt to build a bridge between white and black America. Many of the ethnic leaders throughout New York, as well as the country respect and like Al Sharpton. They may not agree with his positions, but they do believe he wants racism to be acknowledged, addressed and educated from all sides. The NAACP has done wonderful things to advance and integrate minorities into American the mainstream. Past and Present leadership elected and appointed in the NAACP has run the gambit from some being moderates, to activists to racist themselves. However, we could make that same analogy with almost any organization. I disagree with the NAACP's position in supporting "Quotas". However, I do agree with Affirmative Action plans that allow for equality or at least the presence of equality. We are never going to achieve equality in America, because many small business are family owned and therefore nepotism is in place to pass the business threw family hands. That is not a bad thing, that is a good thing, as it keeps those small businesses going. Where I don’t like to see nepotism and cronyism is in politics. It exists equally among both controlling parties. Examples: Father and son Gore, both served in Congress as well as the Bush's, two President's and Governor, and let us not forget the Kennedy's. The list is endless. However, in big business which is more ambiguous and in most cases concerned with Stock Holders; merit versus nepotism and/or cronyism should become the primary focus. You want someone who leads, wins, and/or makes you money. I use the NFL as the example of how Affirmative Action plans can be a positive. Lovie Smith is a product of the NFL's fairly new policy that at least one minority candidate must be interviewed whenever there is a head coaching vacancy. The policy does not set a quota for a certain number of head coaches, only that viable minority candidates be interviewed. Now the Bears are in the Super Bowl and most NFL experts, as well as fans give Lovie a large part of that credit. Both Lovie and Jerry Angelo have admitted that without the NFL’s Affirmative Action Guidelines Lovie more then likely would not have been interviewed. For me everything is about balance. We have a history of racism and sexism that I believe we have mostly overcome. However, to ensure that I do not believe quota’s work, but that fair rules of considering ALL qualified candidates does assist in evening out the playing field. Now if we can just get the nepotism and cronyism out of politics - lol.

The better question though is why did he say it in front of the news media with their insatiable appetite for spin. He was sunk as soon as he said it. His press secretary should have slapped him with the stupid stick, before hand. Light bulb moment............ this is something that is OPENLY discussed by BLACK people. Julian Bond, a brotha I greatly admire, made a similar statement about Obama on a show called America's Black Forum.....when he ran for the Senatorial Candidacy. He said something to the affect and I'm paraphrasing here.... "Obama is the perfect candidate who appeals to city folks in Chicago and downstate in the farmbelt of Southern Illinois. Whats the news here? The brotha IS a dream candidate. Who could make up a story like he has? Kenyan Father, Kansan Mother, Indonesian stepfather, Hawaiian prep school, Harvard Law, Labor leader, admitted coke dabbler, Law School Professor, U.S,. Senator.......only in America.
