User Details are only visible to members.	Patogether: Bush has spent in excess of $700 billion on the war. It's costing us $3-4 billion a week. Now if we begin a withdrawal there in 2008 and reduce engagement significantly in Iraq by 2009-2010, think how much money we will save tht we will be able to invest in education, alternative energy, reconstruction of infrastructure, health care and other things that will truly make Americans more secure and happy and benefit our economy.

User Details are only visible to members.	I don't feel like I'm being targeted by anyone. I hear what the politicians want to do. For instance I see the Dems bashing the cost of the war. I see the Dems bashing the tax cuts. ( We benefited from the tax cuts ) What I see from the dems they want to do away with the tax cuts from the rich. OK that will bring 50 Billion. I see the Dems want to spend 200 Billion extra in Social programs. Where is the other 150 billion coming from ? My guess is me and the other hard working people in this country. I don't see any reason for the people not working to find work. They will be and are already living better then us working people. You don't live in a welfare city. We gave our apartment building to the city just to get out. Life where you our maybe different then here but things cant get any worse for the city I grew up in. BTW blacks in this area going through the same things we are. They are hard working to pay for the non workers just like us. Char

No political party should ignore a race, and the GOP has been ignoring African Americans for 40 years. No party should appeal to prejudice against any racial group, and the GOP party has been doing that for 40 years (check out what Melhman apologized for). Now, brown has become the new black, and some Cons are going in for xenophobia about the brown race (e.g., Patrick Buchanan). I believe politicians can target races and ethnic groups--as well as religious groups and genders--with positive appeals, but not with negativity against any group. The GOP has been anti-gay. What do you think about that? Politicians are also targeting people on the basis of social class. The GOP targets the wealthy. Democrats target the middle class. Both Dems and GOP forget the poor, although the Dems give more lip service to the poor. Take a look at any presidential campaign and all campaigns work close with polls to understand constituencies on the basis of race, class, gender and they target appeals to them. That should be common knowledge, Poli Sci 101.

User Details are only visible to members.	debjack: Nixon did it both ways. He did support Affirmative Action, while also engaging in some Southern Strategy politics. Reagan's record is not quite as bad as Thurgood Marshall makes it out to be, but it was bad. He's near the top of the list given that he wielded more power than Strom Thurmond and those GOP at the senatorial level and below.
