A Jewish man held in connection with the death has been released. The Arab teenager hurled heavy stones at Israeli-owned vehicles along a Samaria highway last Tuesday evening. He managed to hit one car, which was driven by a resident of the nearby town of Emmanuel. Fearing further attacks, the driver fired a single shot in the air to frighten away the stone-thrower. He then contacted local security officers to report both the attack and his own response. A short time later, Israeli paramedics received a report of an Arab teen found unconscious and badly wounded next to a highway. The teen suffered a serious head injury that appeared to be a bullet wound. Medical personnel rushed to the scene but were unable to save the young Arab, who died a short time later. Police originally believed that the resident of Emmanuel who reported firing in the air had in fact fired at his attacker, killing him. The man was arrested and questioned. However, an initial forensic report showed that the attacker had not been killed by a bullet, and the detainee was released. A final forensic report, released over the weekend, showed that the attacker was killed when a stone he threw hit the car driven by the man from Emmanuel. The stone hit the car's tire and bounced back at high speed, hitting the attacker and leaving him with a fatal head injury."

Abunimah also reveals that, starting in 2002, Obama toned down his anti-Israel rhetoric "as he planned his move from small time Illinois politics to the national scene" and Obama made this explicit two years later, apologizing to Abunimah: "Hey, I'm sorry I haven't said more about Palestine right now, but we are in a tough primary race. I'm hoping when things calm down I can be more up front." And Obama dutifully made the requisite policy changes, if in a cramped and reluctant manner ("I have to deal with him every day" he whined about Israeli prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu). He supported Israel in its 2008-09 and 2012 wars with Hamas. His administration called the Goldstone Report "deeply flawed" and backed Israel at the United Nations with lobbying efforts, votes, and vetoes. Armaments flowed. The Israeli exception to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty remained in place. When Ankara canceled Israeli participation in the 2009 "Anatolian Eagle" air force exercise, the U.S. government pulled out in solidarity. If Obama created crises over Israeli housing starts, he eventually allowed these to simmer down. Returning to the present: Netanyahu's likely re-election as Israeli prime minister this week will mean continuity of leadership in both countries. But that does not imply continuity in U.S.-Israel relations; Obama, freed from re-election constraints, can finally express his early anti-Zionist views after a decade of political positioning. Watch for a markedly worse tone from the second Obama administration toward the third Netanyahu government. Recalling what Obama said privately in March 2012 to the then-Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev ("This is my last election and after my election, I have more flexibility"), there is every reason to think that, having won that re-election, things have now "calmed down" and, after a decade of caution, he can "be more up front" to advance the Palestinian cause against Israel. I also predicted in September that "Israel's troubles will really begin" should Obama win a second term. These have begun; Jerusalem, brace for a rough four years. Were Barack Obama re-elected, I predicted two months before the Nov. 2012 presidential vote, "the coldest treatment of Israel ever by a U.S. president will follow." Well, election's over and that cold treatment is firmly in place. Obama has signaled in the past two months what lies ahead by: * Choosing three senior figures – John Kerry for State, John Brennan for the CIA, and Chuck Hagel for Defense – who range from clueless to hostile about Israel. * Approving a huge gift of advanced weapons - 20 F-16 fighter jets and 200 M1A1 Abrams tanks - to the Islamist government in Egypt despite the fact that its president, Mohamed Morsi, has becoming increasingly despotic and calls Jews "blood-suckers, … warmongers, the descendants of apes and pigs." * Reiterating the patronizing 35-year old tactic relied upon by anti-Israel types to condemn Israeli policies while pretending to be concerned for the country's welfare: "Israel doesn't know what its own best interests are." * Ignoring evidence of Cairo importing Scud missile parts from North Korea. * Rebuffing the 239 House members who called for closing the PLO office in Washington in response to the PLO's drive for state-observer status at the United Nations. Asked about Obama's nomination of Hagel, Ed Koch, the former New York City mayor who, despite his astringent criticism of Obama nonetheless endorsed him for re-election, offered an astonishing response: "I thought that there would come a time when [Obama] would renege on … his support of Israel [but this] comes a little earlier than I thought." Even Obama's pro-Israel supporters expected him to turn against the Jewish state! These anti-Israel steps raise worries because they jibe with Obama's early anti-Zionist views. We lack specifics, but we know that he studied with, befriended, socialized, and encouraged Palestinian extremists. For example:

Iran has been spying on Israel for years, with the help of its allies in Syria, according to a report published by the Pentagon and reported on Sunday by the World Tribune. Signals intelligence stations are reportedly being set up by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) throughout the Middle East, and the US believes they are meant to supply information on Israel to the Lebanese-based terrorist group Hezbollah. One of the SIGINT stations is located in the Syrian part of the Golan Heights, according to the Pentagon. The report, entitled “Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security: A Profile,” was authored by the US Department of Defense with the help of Congress. It stated that “two Iranian-Syrian [signals intelligence] stations funded by the IRGC reportedly have been active since 2006, one in the Al Jazirah region in northern Syria and the other on the Golan Heights. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government has been publicly contemplating a strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities for months, often appearing critical of the US administration for not setting a definitive “red line” for Tehran. Iran, for its part, has consistently maintained that its nuclear program has no military component. In recent weeks, news of US President Barack Obama’s nomination of former senator Chuck Hagel to the post of Defense Secretary garnered opposition from those who view Hagel as dovish on the issue of Iran. The former senator has previously criticized the discussion of a military strike by either Israel or the US on the Islamic Republic, but appeared to moderate his views ahead of confirmation hearings in the US Senate. Republicans, particularly, are expected to have some tough questions for Hagel at those hearings, with South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham declaring earlier this month that Hagel would be ”the most antagonistic secretary of defense towards the state of Israel in our nation’s history.”

"Israeli arms exports rose by 20 percent to $7 billion (5.3 billion euros) in 2012, according to defence ministry estimates cited by the Haaretz newspaper on Thursday. The increase comes despite the global economic crisis, which has seen many states cut down on weapons purchases. If confirmed, it would nearly match the recent peak of $7.2 billion figure achieved in 2010 before a fall last year. The defence ministry was not able to confirm the report, with a spokesman saying final 2012 export figures would only be available at the end of the first quarter. Part of the hike is due to a major arms deal with Italy, which will see Israel buying Italian-made combat training jets, the paper said. In return, Rome agreed to make $1 billion in purchases from Israeli defence industries. During 2013, the ministry expects to see an increase in sales to Azerbaijan, Brazil, Poland and Vietnam, and is aiming to increase exports to an annual $10 billion within a few years, it said." ================= Quite interesting, considering the fact that at some point during this term of Obama's presidency, the defense budget will be reduced, quite drastically.

"Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad—mass murderer of 40,000 of his own people—still sits on UNESCO’s human rights committee." Assad is fighting a civil war and throughout this entire two year war, he has had the power to kill a great many of his people if he so desired it. He has shown great restraint in his actions. We must remember the kind of people the rebels are. Allies of terrorist, some are terrorist themselves. We must also remember that many of these so called Rebels were the same people that our Soldiers fought in Iraq. So these civilians who support the rebels, the same rebels fighting building to building... Using the civilians as human shields are the primary cause of the civilian deaths... Deaths that all wars must have if the war for freedom (their version of it) is to have any meaning what so ever.
