I don't fear death. I fear slavery.

"OK but riddle me this, had we invaded Japan would not the russians helped us invade?"

They probably would have grabbed some northern islands that they had long-standing disputes over, but I've never heard anyone suggest that Russia would have been part of a Japanese invasion/occupation force.

Stalin did not trust the Americans at all - he would never have exposed his western front in order to divert a significant number of forces to the Far East.

I don't fear death. I fear slavery.

Lucky,

I think Russia interpreted it the way you describe. However, I do not believe that was Truman's real intent. Maybe it was.

I've read the Communist Manifesto, Marx, and quite a dabble of Mao Zedong. The communists were great orators and had some interesting ideas. How else do you think they were able to get so many followers so easily?

Then again, we didn't go to war against Japan in order to "liberate" and "bring democracy" to them. We went to war against Japan because the Japanese went to war against the US.

Now think about that statement...LOL point in case right here right now.

Good point sens but then why did russia wait til 1945 to declare war on japan?
Land and pofitablity and if you dont think Russia did not cross the mind of Truman when he made the final decission I am thinking other wise.
