Criminals won't obey gun laws any more than they obey other laws. They're criminals, after all.

But if nobody can sell or buy an assault weapon, there won't be as many of them at large. Same goes for ammo and magazines for these guns.

For me, the question these data raise is; why do we to shoot each other (or ourselves) so much more frequently than do people in other highly developed countries?

As for the gun murder rate, here are the numbers (same sources):

US = 3.7 UK = 0.0 (0.04) Australia = 0.1 Germany = 0.1 Denmark = 0.2 Sweden = 0.2 Canada = 0.8 Spain = 0.2 Mexico = 10.0 Switzerland = 0.5 Italy = 0.4 Israel = 0.9

Joego- the only meaningful statistic comparison of nations would be comparing the murder rates by firearm.

When you look at that, make note of how that is broken down even further by age, race, sex and whether the victim knew the their killer or not.

Then look at demographics of the other countries.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, estimated that 34,833 people in 2001 died from cirrhosis of the liver, cancer and other diseases linked to drinking too much beer, wine and spirits.

Another 40,933 died from car crashes and other mishaps caused by excessive alcohol use.

That's a total of 75,766.

In 2011 the CDC found these gun-related statistics...

Accidental discharge 851 Suicide 19,766 Homicide 11,101 Undetermined Intent 222

That's 31,943...less than HALF. Where's the outcry to finally control alcohol, change our alcohol culture, get alcohol off the streets and out of our lives?
